I know everyone has an important role, but if we're going to continue to fight I think we should beef up the infantry and combat arms a bit more. All I know is finance? YOU POGUES SUCK!!! Always pay problems!! That and you'all were always home with your families while we grunts were deployed and in the field.

I was misunderstood. What I was trying to ask is why aren't there more infantry divisions?

There is an old statement that answers your question, brother.

"Amatuers talk about strategy and tactics. Professional soldiers talk about logistics."

If you want to have a fighting unit of soldiers at the front you need a few things first...Especially if you want that unit to focus on fighting and not have to worry about anything other than that time-honored profession:

* Food to keep them moving.
* Medical care to keep them in top condition
* Repair services to keep their weapons in top condition.
* Bullets.
* Uniforms.
* Water to keep them alive.
* Laundry to keep them clean and parasite free.
* Transportation - to get them and their equpiment to the fight.
* Security - to keep them safe on the way to the fight.
* Supplies - to give them what they need to fight.
* Intelligence - to tell them when and where to fight most effectively.
The list goes on and on and on.

America has the best logistics 'tail' of any Army in history. In WWII, the Germans had better equipment in many areas, frequently better generals and highly experienced and motivated troops. One Tiger tanker explained that his Tiger was easily worth 10 Shermans...and then paused, looked down and said, "But there was always that 11th Sherman.".

Two captured German soldiers were being escorted back to a POW cage during the breakout from Normandy. As they were driving through a US supply dump, they saw the SIZE of that ONE dump and they began to cry. It was the first time they realized what they faced and realized that their nation had no hope in the fight.

When your soldiers start having to focus on getting themselves food, getting themselves clothing, getting themselves ammo, and the like, they stop focusing on being fighters - and become less efficient.

The 'pogues' are the reason why the American military kicks so much A$$!

So...next time you enjoy a meal (especially a hot one!) in the field, load your weapon, take a pull off that canteen, slap on some bug juice, or hop on a track, call in an artillery strike, or get some medical aid, thank a Pogue.

EDIT: There aren't more infantry divisions because adding an infantry division requires an increase in the support staff and personnel as well - That long tail. Same if we added Armor divisions. That requires more recruitment, and more budget.

We may end up shfiting more soldiers out of state-side non-combat arms by using disabled Vets who are still quite capable (and more than willing!) for that sort of work but not infantry, and by using more civilians in those sorts of jobs. They're looking at that option and doing some experimentation with it.

Well a lot of the pogue MOS's are slowly being phased out and being taken over by civilians. That way we can still have the same number of troops in the military, but beef up the combat arms and combat support MOS's. I know in my field (medical), they are taking a lot of medics out of the hospitals and putting them in infantry and stryker units.

If being a protection preserve after the army is your dream interest, then by ability of all ability pass cav scout or 11 bang bang. although, while you're finding for a job that would heavily advance your marketability on the exterior, then you would desire to pass sign (the 25 series MOS). in case you % 25S, it incredibly is a satellite tv for pc communications tech, civilian recruiters would be finding for you as quickly as you graduate AIT. A 25N builds radio, telephone and pc networks. 25B additionally does pc networks, yet is a lot greater extremely expert. 25P is a community troubleshooter. you're able to desire to verify jobs which will help you on the exterior. you will no longer constantly be interior the army.

Yeah guess we'll have to remember that next time you need a ride somewhere, or fuel, or you need to call something in, or you need intel, maybe supplies. Pull you head out of you @ss and realize that the Army needs every job out there. None could do the job without the other. Also realize that we are all out doing patrols, fixed site security, VCPs, etc. I'm sorry you scored a 46 on your ASVAB, but thank you for your service. We need every job. Infantry is tough, and there is mroe time out in the field. But we all get deployed, and all do combat tours. The "S"-Shops, trans, mechanics, fuelers, etc...you need them all - pretty much everyday.

Hate to burst your bubble, but every job in the military is important. Without weather reports how can you get air support. Without communications how can you talk to each other, without mechanics how can we keep the vehicles, tanks, carriers, jets, helicopters etc moving? Without medics who would be there in the field to help when soldiers or marines are hurt? You were obviously a grunt because that is what you chose to do. Everyone is needed.

Okay lets take away the finance, and the admin, and the cooks, and the medical, (lab techs, nurses and such) and the dental.
How are you going to get your affairs in order if everyone is combat arms.

I may be a pogue, but I am the pouge who takes care of your child's cold, and fixes your scrapes. I might even save your life one day. So as I respect you as a fellow soldier I ask you to respect me.

Well - if the pay guys weren't there it would probably be even more screwed up.

I guess you shouldn't have gone infantry....and remember from your training - you are all soldiers first and foremost - and the MOS comes second.

By the way - my hubby is supply - and without him being supply - you would really be hurting.

Well if you are still in the Military you'd know that MOST finance, personnel and admin jobs are now being done by civilians. If you are unhappy w/your MOS why don't you try to re-class, obviously you are unhappy...didn't mommy hug you enough?!?!?

No wonder you are a grunt, based on your rants, that is the only thing you are over qualified to do.

Someone has to stop bullets, might as well be you.
