What you think humans are the only ones that have twins?

It is the same premice as a person that has twins. The woman's body makes two ovum but with the case of the egg, they never became fertilized. The chicken's body prepared for two embryo in the same egg. It's a normal abnormality (if that's possible) in both humans and chickens. I have many times cracked open an egg to find a double yolk. Now explain how one time I got a whole dozen of eggs that had all double yolks except one....hmmm.....

I fix them for my daughter all the time. They are sold at my local fruit stand as "double yolk eggs".. The double yolk is caused by unsynchronised cycles of the hens, and is like the phenomena of twins in humans. They are identified easily, because they are longer and wider than single yolk eggs. They identify double yolk eggs by shining a light through them in a process called "candling" where it can be determined if the egg is fertilized, or if there are more than one yolk.

Naturally one in a thousand have two yolks., now artificially in can be done, and have two yolk in one egg. But commercially it is not feasible, as people buy only egg, with out knowing whether it has one or two yolks, since the price is same.
