I've got "go to the doctor" covered...that appointment is Wednesday. In the meantime, what should I do to keep from screaming? Thanks, y'all.

My best advise would try and combine all th above mentioned. and in addition to that if needed, try pressing your left little finger inside corner nail bed forcefully for two minutes every hour. This is a acupressure treatment!!!

I feel so sorry for you!!! I suffer from migraines as well and it's pretty much like living through hell. I can only tell you what causes mine and maybe it will help you. I found (after many tortured years) that working out or doing intense physical activity for prolonged periods (such as running for several miles) was one cause. Secondly, the sun and getting very hot and sweaty (like in pads at football practice) was another cause for my migraines. Lastly, not drinking enough water and getting 8 hours of sleep were two other causes. Those are the areas that caused mine, maybe that will help you. As far as dealing with them once you get them, I'm sorry you just have to live with them, the doctor will prescribe you pills and they will work but until then just lay in a dark room, try pressing hard on your temples (this works for a short time) and try to go to sleep (sleeping is the best way to ignore the pain). Get well soon and I wish you the best of luck in the future!

oh sweetie I do feel for you,Migraines are horrible. My mother sister and I are plaqued with them it seems. Here is what helps.

1.Lay down in the darkest area in your home and make sure it's quiet.Put blankets over your window if needed....

2.get yourself a hankerchif(bandana)and roll/fold it to where you can put it over your forehead and bring the ends to the back of your head and tie it tight(not too tight)but needs to be tight! My mother learned this from our grandmother and My mother does this everytime,it helps alot.

3.If you feel the need to throw up(some do,some don't)then by all means, throw up..It will make you feel better after then you can go lay in the dark-quiet room with your bandana around the head as explained.

4.You might want to try a couple(as directed)Tylenol PM.It will help just a bit and help you get some sleep...that's the best thing is sleep

I hope this helps and when you're at the doctors on wednesday, the best thing you can get for migraines is imitrex..You just take a pill when you're getting or GET the migraine and it DOES work, takes it away quickly. My mother and Sister swear by it!If you need to talk to someone or have any questions for me,Please shoot me an email or even IM: princesspipster

Take Care and GOOD LUCK!

Well going to the doctor is going to be you best bet. Ask them about Imitrex, I took it for what I thought was a migraine, turned out to be a bleed in my brain, the Imitrex took the edge off. Also, Vicoden and Percocet help to relieve the pain. Sitting in a dark room helps, as the sun light will effect your eye sight and intensify your migraine. For hebal help try "5-HTP" it is available in supplement form. It is made from the seeds of an African plant, called Griffonia simplicifolia. Since supplements that affect levels of serotonin are used for migraines, 5-HTP has been explored as an alternative. Also the herb feverfew (Tanacetum parthenium) has been used for centuries as a folk remedy for headache, migraine, arthritis, pain, and fever in Europe. Good luck and good luck on Wednesday.

First of all, although you are correct to be going to the doctors, do you wear eyeglasses, or have you had an eyedoctors appointment? I have worn glasses for many years, and a few times needing a prescription adjustment has contrubuted to my migraines.

The OTC Excedrin Migraine and Tension headaches products have worked well for me. I am unable to take prescription meds due to allergic reactions to penicillian and other med additives.

Please try to eliminate high blood pressure problems also. Blood pressure variations can lead to migraine symptoms.

Keep a food journal, as many foods and food additives such as MSG and some of the new artificial sweetners can lead to severe migraine reactions.
This will not help much before your appointment on Wed., but can be extremely helpful later on.

Watch out for consumption of caffinated products, coffee, tea and even chocolate. I cannot consume more that two servings of caffinated coffee/tea in a day, or I will get migraine symptoms.

If you use one of those herbal neck wraps, they generally have rice and lavender or other herbs inside them; that will help. Warm it to a comfortable temp in your microwave, and sit with it on your neck. A lot of migraines will lesson with the release of tension in your neck and shoulders. If you do not own an herbal neck wrap, you can get some help with a dampened towel rolled up and warmed for 30 seconds or so in the microwave.

If you have to be at work, and cannot use one of these wraps, the Thermacare neck product works very well.

If I have a severe migraine that I cannot alleviate with any of these methods, I will lie down in a darkened room with a cold facecloth over my face, and this will help. Sometimes I will have to fall asleep for a bit for things to improve.

Having a neck and shoulder massage can also help; so if you can have a friend or family member volunteer to do this for you, go for it.

Migraines can be cyclic for women, and can follow your monthly period. This is something else to note in a journal, on on a calender so that you can be aware of when you are most likely to suffer another migraine.

I hope these suggestions help, and I hope you feel better, migraines are very difficult to deal with so you have to become very self aware and very conscious of what is going on in your life in order to become in control of your symptoms.

Honestly? Can you just lay down and sleep it off? Take two excedrin pm and just sleep.
Also a hot shower and rubbing your neck - I take two asprin
and an hour later one motrin -

I do not suffer horrible migraines but get terrible headaches.

My daughter is 8 and gets serious migraines the only thing she can do is ride it out (she throws up)
and her doctor said sleep - being overly fatigued sets her off.

Feel better.
