You first want to ask the pro or course superintendent if they want the divots replaced. Certain types of grass, grass divots, do not grow when replaced so they are not ot be replaced. If the divots are to be replaced merely replace the divot the same way it came out. You should be able to tell this by the depth and taper of the divot.

yes, if you take a large divot, and you are able to find the grass that you dug out with your club. Then pick up the grass and replace it where it was at first, and step on it with your foot. If you are not able to find the grass, use the sand mixture that the course supplies on the golf cart to fill in the divot.
