My last kitty, who got great medical care, lived to be 20. The natural lifespan is somewhere between 15 and 22 and the most common cause of death is kidney failure. (Indoor cats)
Outdoor cats can die early from car accidents, animal encounters etc. The 4 outdoor cats we had when I was young averaged about 10 years.

Not taking into account untimely illness or accidents, cats receiving proper care will live on average 15-17 years. The oldest cat on record I believe was 30something. My parents had a cat live a full indoor/outdoor life until the age of 19, and an previous neighbor of ours' had a cat live to the age of 21.

My cats lived for 13-17 years, and my friend's cats lived for 18-20 years. I dont know what the average is, but if you take good care of it, and take it to the vet regularly, it will live for a long time.

With modern medicine cats are living a lot longer. I would say the life span of a cat ranges from about 17 to 20 years, as long as they don't get any strange diseases.

There is really no telling how long a cat can live for. Some live short lives others live long lives. It is all based on the cat, its health, how it is taken care of, and the enviroment it lives in. My cat is so stubborn he will probably live to be 40! Good luck.

I had a cat that lived to be 21 years old and died due to teeth decay. Thats was before we knew we had to take care of them. I now have on that is 16 years old and she is doing great.
