Do I need to be in park ? Can I be moving and if so how fast is safe to switch it on? It is and automatic with a 302 motor.

You should come to a complete stop before engaging any 4WD system regardless if its shift on the fly or not. Shifting into 4WD while moving causes tons of stress to drivetrain components. You do not have to be in park to engage 4Hi, you do however have to have the transmission in neutral in order to engage 4Lo.

If its push button 4WD, you can put it in 4WD while driving. For 4wd low, you need to have the parking brake engaged & the trans in N.

At least idle with the foot on the brake in any gear.

no you do not need to be in park but you do need to check if you have locking hubs on it if you do lock the hubs in then push the button
