It could be something easy to take care of, like the carpet.
It could be an infection (fungus)
It could be an allergic reaction to the food.

My cat had the same problem because of the carpet in the hallway (rough surface).
I would assume the same in your case because of the cats hair loss on those parts that touch the ground when sitting. An allergy or a fungus would cause hair loss on other parts of the body too... but always check the vet for a professional opinion..

A vet to giagnoise the problem. This is your only real cure as to what is wrong with your cat, proper diagnoise and treatment. A simple shot from the doc usually works fine ansd saves you allot of problems and headaches and fustrations!

Your cat could have allergies. I suggest taking the cat to the vet. They can tell for sure and advise you on what to do to help.

When my cat had this problem it turned out to be she was allergic to fish. The store had been out of the chicken flavor so I bought the fish based one (smae brand). I went back to the chicken and it solved the problem.
