I am interested in going this summer. I am a credentialed ESL teacher in the US. Any information about schools, teaching requirements, ect. would be appreciated. Thank you.

My information may not be terribly useful, but so far no one has answered. I looked into teaching in Italy in '02 and found that there were numerous schools hiring. There were two caveats: you are at a disadvantage compared to UK teachers who have EU passports--although Italy seems to routinely hire ESL teachers under the table, and you are certainly qualified. Secondly, the pay is quite poor-- I was offered around $800 US a month, which is not much in Italy.

Check out daveseslcafe.com for job listings. But honestly, I would either teach in Mexico, which is much closer, or I would consider teaching in the middle east or in Korea, which will pay very well and will permit you to take vacations in Italy if that is your goal (I have co-workers who have done this). That might be better than starving full-time in Sardinia. I also have a friend teaching in Cyprus who is making decent money.

You might be asked if you have a TEFL certificate. Any school that values a cheesy weekend certificate over a degree-holding teacher isn't worth working for!

Best wishes, Ken
