It depends on what bible/version you read. Could have been 2 or 3 or 7. Could be magi or wisemen or rich dudes. Most versions usually suggest three.

The notice used is plural, so there have been a minimum of two. the belief of three comes from later Catholic custom. i'm no longer paying for it, yet this is the place the belief comes from. ---------------------------------------... RE i've got faith it comes from the three presents they introduced. sure. The Bible didn't say they were 3, the number was deduced from the gifts they presented to Christ (by the so-called scholars.)

The story is in Matt. chapter 2. They are called wise men in the KJV.

The bible says many things. Almost all of it is taken from some place else. A lot was taken from Mythra, the story of creation was taken from the Sumerians. The flight to Bethlahem was taken from the Egyptian tale of Isis fleeing with her child. It goes on and on.
