Don't ever hit or strike or spank your dog. This is a great way to get yourself bitten even more. Consult a behaviorist to help you solve the problem in a positive way (do not use the methods of Cesar Milan, unless you want to get bitten!) Here's a website to help:

The trick is to stop your dog from doing undesirable behaviors, and reward and encourage the good behaviors. Smacking a dog around simply teaches him that you are untrustworthy.

YES YOU DO!
You need to train your dog effective immediately!
Is he doing this to stop you from leaving? Or is he doing this when you go out in the yard to play with him? if it is during play time he is just displaying his play mode. If its because he doesn't want you to leave he is showing you he is dominant over you. Either way you must stop this display immediately.
A mother dog corrects their young by grabbing them by the muzzle and firmly pressing their muzzle to the ground until they submiss to her, you must do the same. Give it firm commands no bite while you are doing this, continue to do so until the dog is submissive to you, if this doesn't work and even if it does you should look into formal obedience training you need to correct this action before it turns into something more serious. All bad habits can be corrected, but you need to show your dog you are the dominent one not the dog. You must take the rank of alpha dog because if you don't your dog will own you.

Don't tolerate it. To quote the dog whisperer, be the packleader. You are allowing your dog to dominate you, he's the alpha and not you, and that's just going to get worse over time.

Smack him (gently) on the nose when he does this, or grab his snout, again gently. You aren't trying to hurt him, you are just telling him that his behavior is not acceptable.

If he's doing it on walks, put a muzzle on him. You need to take charge, your dog is acting like a pack animal (which is what he is), and if you are not the packleader then he will be, that's how dogs think. They can't accept a buddy relationship, they are either the dominant or you are.

Maybe you don't spend much time outside with the dog and he is over excited to see you out there. Don't give him any attention while he is wound up and insist that he is quiet and calm before play or any other attention is given.

Your dog is trying to assert his/herself as pack leader. Read about the pack mentality at

And please don't hit the dog, that will only teach fear and aggression and dammage your relationship.
