Yes, I do believe that as Christians we are better off not attending a ".Church" Church's tend to have way too many politics and have been know to distort the truth to serve their own purpose. The Catholic Church is a prime example of this when in the 70's admitted that they have know that Mary Magdalene was not a prostitute. Knowing that books were voted on as to whether or not they would be in the bible we own today makes it hard for those of us who know better trust an establishment that has been known to lie to us for 2,000 years. It is also hard for us to know what is true and what is a lie that have been spoon fed to us. The best I can do is read all that I can find and trust God will grant me discerment is decideing what is his word and what is a lie.

Yes, you do not need a red brick building to worship God. There is nothing wrong with going to church but anybody can open the book, set up shop and take up an offering. My family life has more peace since we stopped going. We continue to give in other places financially and worship but it is great not to be bound up in legalism that the Sunday regimen offers...If you are a believer the church is within you by way of the Holy Spirit.

I believe in God but do not go to church because I do not agree with some of the things that they tried to teach me in church. There is only one church that I truly enjoyed going to and felt like when I left that I was closer to God and his ways. I am now too far away to go to it. Many churches make you feel bad about yourself and I feel that is wrong, I also think that many (but not all) of the members and leaders are judgemental. The only one who should judge me is God.

Church means a body of people, not the actual unlived in building made of sticks and stones. The one valuable thing I learned when I did attend a "church", is that God is not bound or constrained to a building. It eventually gave me the wings to flee. Hearth and Home are my church. As regards those empty tombs that people call a church. Jesus is NOT there, He has risen. Apparently, christians don't believe the stuff they teach.

Hi Kim I believe that if you believe in God you have to be involved in a Church. A Church, (the Body of Christ) is where you obtain your spiritual food, encouragement and support from.

Unfortunatly lots of so called "churches" are farces and are huge big money making machines. Try get hold of the book "In His Steps" I forget the author but if you email me jonathanmburke@yahoo.co.uk I will look it up and give you all the info you require.

Be Blessed

The main reason we go to church is not primarily to worship God. We go to church primarily to share the goodness and grace of God with others, so I think it will be nice for a believer to belong to a church. Wherever we are, we can worship God (remember that our bodies are the temple of God). So church is a communal continuation of the individual worship we already started as believers.

Kim ... I think it's possible, technically speaking. Some would disagree, I'm sure. But if the people in your congregation are not living up to God's word/expectations as you see it, then I think you have a duty to find another church, if possible. If you can't find another satisfactory church within a reasonable distance from your home, then I guess you have just two options:

- Politely confront the leaders/congregation, if you have it in you.
- Make your own home your "church." Prayer is good no matter where it's offered.

Good luck.

Yes. I don't know what you mean by "church" as each religion has it's own e.g. temple, mosque, etc. moniker but christians are especially known for believing in god and not in the world of their ecclesiastical types. Some here have reckoned it to herding cats. As a student of same I'll cite an example such as Christian Gnosticism which believed that God was known within each of us. Look it up it'll help if your searching.

I believe in God a higher power that watches over us. I believe that God is happy with me. He doesnt care if I attend a church or not. I am good person, I volunteer in soup kitchens, I donate to animal rescue shelters, I am kind to my neighbour and I know God is pleased with me. Unfortunately there are religious fanatics that have to push their beliefs down everyones throats and if you do not attend, if you do not follow their rules that are convenient to themselves then you are not God loving. Sad to say but alot of Christians that attend church judge others too harshly and feel they have the only path to God. I am sure God is shaking is head as I write this and thinking do not these people realize there are many many roads to come to Me?

Anyone can believe anything they want. But that does not make it truth. There is an objective reality that exists regardless of what men may or may not believe. The real question is, do you want just a subjective 'belief' that may very well be illusion, or do you want truth and reality? For that, you will need something with some authority. Joe Schmoe on Yahoo answers is not an authority but an opinion. Base your eternal life on something REAL, tested, and proven through the ages. Jesus Christ said 'My word is truth.' At least consider that.
