I have a painting and I want to identify the signature. Does anybody have any idea how to identify it? Please dont say take to antique dealer,as where I live they are known not to be so reputable

If you can't read it, try enlarging it. Then look it up on the internet. You need to have a rough guess at the age of the work. There have been thousands and thousands of painters and only the exhibited ones were listed

What you could do is look for similar styles of paintings and see if you can find a signature to match. Also if you have a relative idea of the date that would help. If its someone local it could be unidentifiable.

Try, Artists on artnet in Google search.
If it is a well listed artist, it will be on there.
