I reached a point where I need to get out more and socialize with different exciting young people (preferable in the 20s age group). I would like to volunteer on Saturdays and do work in Manhattan. Do you know of any causes that meet my priorities? Any helpful websites where I can explore opportunities? Thank you

I would suggest that you contact your local volunteer center. They specialize in connecting you with a wide variety of projects that can be one-time or short-term. Once you find a project that you really enjoy, the volunteer center can connect you with that agency so that you can have a more long-term project with that organization.

I have worked with some of the organizations that are part of the Hands-On Network. Your local affiliate is called New York Cares:

They can find all sorts of different things to do, and a lot of the volunteer opportunities are typically done in groups and work within everyone's busy work schedules.

Through my affiliate, I tutor children at the local library, work with teens at the local museum, package food at the food bank, and do a lot of park cleanups.

Good luck!

Your local United Way can direct you to a good charity to volunteer for. The Red Cross is an excellent charity.
