It's a matter of taste. I just use butter, salt and black pepper. You could use cream, but use one fist sized potato per person, boil for 20 mins (check after 15 so they don't collapse) and add the cream GRADUALLY until it seems like the right consistency. If you want to be a bit flash try grating a LITTLE nutmeg into your mash, or adding some choppeed chives or spring onion.

There is no should about it. If you like cream and butter, just do that. Just not too often.
Single cream is fine, you just need to add it little by little mashing as you go until you have reached the right consistency. It is difficult to say about the quantities. Depends on how many potatoes you use and what size they are. My advise is to make too much and then you can use the remainder for next day in a different recipe.
Hope this helps.

I am not familiar with single cream. I use milk in my mashed potatoes most the time but also substitute with chicken stock sometimes. The liquid you use is to make the potatoes creamy. Start with a small amount as you mash them. You can always add more but you cannot remove " too much". For 3 people, I would use about 2 tablespoons of butter.

you can use single cream in place of putting milk in with the mash. You can also use a knob of butter. Only use about 3 tablespoons of the cream.
remember this isn't a healthy option though if you are on a diet.

using single cream is fine, but double cream is better.
i usually bring the cream up to the boil with the butter in it, this way you have more control over the consistency.
note: always add cream and butter to HOT mashed potatos, this prevents it becoming lumpy!

Yes but I would think it would make the mash taste a bit too rich, butter's OK, cream cheese or fried onions in moderation.
