My cat LOVES to eat the following: Yogurt, chocolate pudding, strawberries, oatmeal, apples, green beans, orange juice. Does anyone else's cat like to eat stuff like that? I think that is so weird!

Thanks catlover,

I've tried giving her meat but she refuses to eat it! The only meaty thing she'll eat is her food and tuna! Her coat is very shiny and beautiful and the vet says she is extremely healthy, so I don't think the fruit or yogurt are harming her. But I don't give her the chocolate pudding...I just know she likes it because she always tries to eat it when I do! lol

There is nothing weird about your cat. Cats will eat all kinds of things. My cat comes running when she hears me opening cheese packets. She jumps right on the cheese and insists that I give her some. Lately she has taken to loving a little ice cream. I don't understand it, but, if she likes it, what can I do, I let her have it, she's 17 and she doesn't seem to be doing any worse for eating these things. I've had a cat who ate corn on the cob, but the corn had to be on the cob. I had a cat who loved chocolate pudding and would crawl into the blender after i made it. I also had a cat who ate beef stew, mostly the string beans. They are cats, who can understand them. I certainly never have been able to. I just love my cats and feed them what they want.

Not all cats are lactose intolerant. Given in small quantities, the yogurt should be alright. The veggies and oatmeal are good for them. The oj, strawberries and apples are okay, too.
You should avoid the chocolate--it is toxic to them (it's due to the theobromine). Other things that are toxic to kitties: green tomatoes, raw potatoes, onions, grapes and raisins.
All cats are kinda weird--one of mine refuse all scraps including meat. The other will only eat scraps if she "hunts" them first (such as finding a stray fry under the couch).

The yogurt and chocolate, and sometimes oatmeal is slightly normal, since gats like dairy products. They also like chocolate.

I must warn you however, NOT to feed your cat anything that is related to chocolate.

Why?

Chocolate contains a chemical complex called theobromine which is indigestible for animals such as cats and dogs, but digestible for humans such as ourselves. When the theobromine enters the digestive system, it will stay in the stomach and if not digested the cells in the theobromine ocmplex will begin to react violently to the cat's stomach. And may cause it to rupture.

Everything else is okay, but weird. Just don't give it chocolate products.

My cat once drank a whole glass of eggnog sitting on the kitchen table while we were watching a christmas story, and then she gained a bit of weight.

I know what you mean, my cat likes some weird things herself: raw carrots, raspberries, papayas and pineapple from my trail mix, strawberries, hot tea (which she only gets if she sneaks it when I'm not looking). My vet said most fruits are fine for her, just avoid grapes and raisins. The one thing she refuses to eat is cat treats. I guess she figures she's too good for that and wants me to make her up a gourmet fruit dish :)

My cat eats some really weird stuff too, lol. Don't feed it chocolatestuff like that pudding though, it can be dangerous for cats just like dogs.

yogurt is a no, because cats are lactose intollerant.

chocolate can potentially kill your cat because they can't digest it.

and cats are strict carnivors and should only really eat meat. the other stuff they have no need for in their diet.

so quit giving your cat things that will make it sick or hurt it.

if you want to give it people food, cook up a hamburger or a piece of skinless boneless chicken.

Cats are known for having a liking for weird food. Just as there's no accounting for a woman's taste in men, there's no accounting for a cat's taste in food.

The obvious answer here is if you didn't feed him weird food, he wouldn't know he liked it. Anyway, my cats will eat almost anything, unless it's heathly. One of them is even lactose intolerant (found that out when he "released" some mac and cheese on my carpet.) Anywho.....it's not weird, our cats are parts of us! ;)
