Your question reveals that you are a believer in God. There may be many occasions in your life when u would have felt that you received the inspiration from god. A named God or otherwise. Now you talk of a stone to be a god.

If you find a stone, you will not find a god.
If you find a god there you will not find a stone. It is a faith and belief.
As you have asked the question, you should also be interested in knowing the rituals and process adopted in errectng a deity's statue. Is a separate subject and requires pages of study.

However in simple terms I will tell you. The statues are errected on a Chakra over which cetain mantras are inscribed. These mantras are recited lakhs of times and they vibrate to sound energy, as the sound of a bell is heard before fading in the air. These sound waves are of different frequencies and have a power of invoking a deity or creating an energy field.

People who worship donot worship a stone but this energy field. For those who believe, they find their prayers answered. There is no question of non believers.

Do you wash your teeth and change your dress on daily basis. That is what your self esteem prompts. Similarly self esteem of some one else is to believe in god. You have nothing tocomment about it

It depends on your perception . Please do be informative , your knowledge is very poor. Over the ages , in all religions , this form of symbolic respect is quite common . Why do we place flowers on the stones over a grave ?
Stars and planets are also rocks only , why people worship them ?
You require a form to worship as it is very difficult to imagine a formless god.
Why do we create a replica of a departed loved ones and respect that stone statue ?
Is it true that stones have no power ? Then what are magnetic stones ?
So stones are only a readily available substitute , which forms a basis to show our love and gratitude , to a formless and fathomless source of inspiration , commonly called as God .

It's Ur belief ,if U can believe in god who doesn't hav any form
then U can't blame them. The people who worship stone knew that they are worshipping almighty in a form, they need
some form as it's easy to gain belief,so don't think that they don't know that God is everywhere,if ure matured enough to
see God in a stone, then U can see him everywhere, atleast u 'll comprehend Him.

I have to assume you're confusing a statue with the deity it represents. So I must ask you - how could a piece of wood (say, a crusifix) be a god? Since so many Christians worship it on a daily basis.

We have pictures of our loved ones in our minds. Yet we keep their photographs. Now these phtographs are just peices of paper, yet we look at them and smile. At times we talk to them, and some even kiss them.

It's the same with idols. Idols are personification of the almighty in different forms. They don't woirship the stone, but the personified image. Indians strictly believe that God is in our hearts.

All the best...

:-)

Hi well said. Pl dont go by the literal meaning.people do worship n this is one way for concentration of yr mind . Even the demigods are worshipped all over who derive power from the super power. Again this is the way to do prayers but ultimately u are praying to god.The superpower.

Making an offering using a symbol as a point to direct ones attention toward the divine is not the same as worshipping the symbol.

What people believe is a very powerful thing. That is why most wars trace back to religious beliefs.

Yoda... I bet you believe in evolution. I bet you believe the earth is 4.5 billion years old. How do you explain it when Science will prove in the next decade the earth is a different age. Just as they do every so many years. God is a constant.

it is all in belief. It is not the stone that they worship, it is the belief that since we cant see god we worship something which represents god, and if god does exsist he will see that one is worshiping him in some form or representation. When you go to a church and make confession, it is only to a priest, not god. Here he is representing God.

Different cultures are raised to believe certain things, look at other religions too. Christians tend to bow down and pray to a cross. It's just a symbol, but belief imbues the cross with a certain power that others "feel"; same as for rocks, cups, beads, and other inanimate items.
