What Jesus was referring to was the selling of things that were needed for the acts of obedience to the law of Moses.
He was also referring to the twisting of God's word to do nothing more than line the pockets of the Priests.
Most Churches today have tremendous expenses and the larger the church is the higher the costs that go with it.
There are times when the selling of these inspirational and teaching aids are used to supplement the finances of the Church....
But then I'm also sure there are times when it is strictly a money making deal.
Depends on the Church, the Pastor and the workings of the Church.

Jesus is referring to the temple, the cornerstone of Jewish belief. You will find the entire passage in John 2:12-22 where Jesus quotes Psalm 69. Note where Jesus talks about the temple being destroyed and rebuilt in three days.
After the Jewish Wars 70 AB when the temple was destroyed, the Jews move to a distributed places of worship. These house would be used as a place of worship but also for other purposes.
But what about the temple, take a look at 2 Cor 3:3.

Yes and No. Jesus was angered at the selling going on inside the temple because of the cheating going on and by the money mongering involved. "You have turned it into a den of thieves"
Most churches I have been in do not do this practice and the ones that I have seen do it as they do the votive candles. There is a place for you to place the money on the honor system. This is donation style since if you have need of a missal you can acquire one at your ability to afford it. Maybe what you describe is a different situation. In addition, holy items or blessed items can NEVER be sold. They may be given or offered with no expectation of donation or recompense and if it is offered it must be denied,-payment that is.

According to the Bible, the the only time Jesus showed any anger at all was when the church was being used by money lenders.
Even when he was nailed to a cross, he showed no anger and even asked for forgiveness for those who were about to kill him.
This tells me that those that use the church for money making endeavors could be in for some real wrath from God

Wow, you and that i've got had an identical adventure. as quickly as we examine what Stephen mentioned earlier he replaced into stoned to dying, his description of 'church' capacity that God can not stay in something made by employing human palms. Haggai says that God sees each and all of the folk with their homes yet 'who has cared on the topic of the homestead of the Lord?" Amos says that God is weary of each and all of the making a song and the song too. Jesus mentioned that he's construction a church which He defined as His 'palms and His feet', and Paul laid the commencing place for it. yet that commencing place replaced into deserted while Ephesian believers have been warned to return to their previous flame in any different case, they could lose the respect and skill to be the sunshine of the international, (their lampstand replaced into got rid of)... to restoration what Paul did at Ephesus then, is the respond to the living place of the main severe: interior the hearts and minds of Believers in a locality, with believers assembly, 'going from homestead to homestead, breaking bread' and bearing the burdens of another. As impossible as that looks, think of of this: Paul mentioned he ran a sturdy race yet some adversarial him (like Alexander who replaced right into a coppersmith and idol maker) and did him lots injury. John tried to share the ingenious and prescient that he had on Patmos, yet some, like Diotrephes adversarial him and would not enable him to communicate, (because of the fact he cared greater approximately his very own pre-eminence and subsequently began a clean form: the only guy coach) yet whilst Israel replaced into not a rustic for some 2,000 years and yet God restored it, we are able to desire that the Ecclesia will additionally be restored and the unique glory would be greater beneficial than it replaced into on the initiating! And, we are able to take satanic forces below our feet, and this power and authority will improve the Bride! Jesus could have a bride to return back to, (not a harlot, not a concubine). i think of you have heard the decision to 'pop out of her and touch no unclean project'....seek for those around you to fulfill with and pray at the same time, in the two's and 3's, at your homestead, your artwork, or contained available in the marketplace place. (bus end, pictures keep, laptop save, the place ever!) don't be discouraged, yet additionally comprehend: the 'theatre' isn't what Jesus gave His blood for, and it won't in any respect have the authority to triumph over the principalities that we conflict against. :) Islaam is a judgment on a fallen away Christianity.

Do you? Remember the part about not judging? Or let the one without sin cast the first stone? Are you now sinless too? You did so well behaving yourself yesterday. Why are you back to your old nonsense? A lot of those big churches will also give you the books for free if you are poor. The money typically is not a profit. It covers the costs for the ones they give away. At least in the churches I attend that is how it works.

There are only two maters in life: God or money, and it is our choice to choose one. I will not judge anybody but "each shall give account of everything before the Lord." The Bible said that "when we see the abomination that causes desolation seated on high places, then we know that the end has come" and that "in the last days, men will be lovers of money and self...instead of lovers of God." I agree that churches need money to run their course, but what we are seeing today is completely out of proportion. May the Lord have mercy.

No.
The difference is in the requirement for salvation.
Under the Old Covenant sacrifices were necessary to atone for sin. Pagan money could not be used inside the Temple so there were money changers who exchanged pagan money for money acceptable in the Temple. There were also people who bought and sold animals for sacrifice. To make it simple people were selling 'forgiveness" and "salvation".
Salvation is a gift, it cannot be sold. Jesus Christ was sacrificed under the law as judged by people so that the Old Covenant would be finished and sacrifice would no longer be necessary for forgiveness or salvation.
In the New Covenant our bodies are our Temples where we worship and sacrifice ourselves to God's will.
Things can be sold at a Church or Temple now as long as people do not represent them as selling salvation or forgiveness.
If you think someone is selling salvation, as someone else pointed out, who are you to Judge?
Love everyone. Spread the Gospel. God will Judge.
