actually if you take the percentage of drivers under 25 you will see there is a lot more of them than over 70s, however you are more likely to be killed by an over 70s driver than and under 30s

what i am saying is
in order for me to pass my driving test ihad to answer the above question which is sooooooooooo stupid, yet these people dont and plus they do not know how to check their water or oil as my hubby is a machanic and was called out to one who had broke down about 3 weeks ago, and guess what she ran out of petrol

AND ON A LIGHTER NOTE THE REASON WOMAN APPARENTLY HAVE MORE ACCIDENTS IS BECAUSE HTEY HAVE MEN INT HE CAR WITH THEM ANNOYING THEM WHERE AS WOMAN KEEP SHUT AND ARE CAPABLE OF GIVING DIRECTIONS,

AND AGAIN I AM NOT SAYING YOUNGER DRIVERS ARE BETTER BUT ONCE YOU REACH 70 YOU DEGENERATE QUICKLY SO YOUR DRIVING SHOULD BE CHECKED REGULALLY

Hi!
You are justifiably annoyed by some of the answers to you very convoluted question. Let's not go there, shall we?

Now, those who said the main cause of accidents are the ones who drive at excessive speed were right. This is a proven fact.

Age gets to us all but the arbitrary 70 is a misnoma. There are so many people who degenerate faster and so many who don't, that to quote an age is very misleading. However, I do know what you mean.

Doctors in the UK are very observant people when age takes a toll on people in general but more with drivers.

The majority of elderly people drive more responsibly that the young (mentioned earlier) and less accidents are recorded involving the elderly.

Your experience might be of an individual in you village or town because you see the driver regularly but not all are the same.

I would ask you to be a little more understanding, give way when this driver approaches and remember that, one day, we will all possibly be at the stage in life when others might consider us unworthy of a Drivers Licence.
Any delay to a journey cannot be more important than to arrive safely.
I am 66 years of age, a responsible driver, Police trained and observant of all motorists actions because I always think the other fellow is going to make a mistake and take care.

Oh dear! You certainly seem to have caused some controversy with this question!
I personally think that everyone should be given a re-test every so often. If this was done then you'd find a lot of people failing, young and old, male and female.
In my fairly lengthy driving experience (13 years, 5 years as a delivery driver, now a Police emergency response driver) there seems to be both young and old bad drivers. A lot of young drivers seem to think they are very experienced when they're not, a lot of old drivers don't appear to look where they're going and I know a lot of very good women drivers.
That said, the only person to ever collide with my car was over 55 and not looking what he was doing. However, a very good driving instructor who took my last test (work related) was a very good driver and over 55.
A book I recently read says, 'you should be able to stop safely in the space you can see to be clear on your own side of the road' how many drivers could honestly say they can always do that?
At the end of the day, most people when they drive only see whats immediately in front of them and drive too fast for their experience and the conditions.
And trust me, when you're driving with blue lights and sirens blaring and people cut across you or don't even see you coming up behind them, you see that people tend to drive in their own little bubble.

I take it that you are female, that is unless your picture is of someone else, and that your assumption is wrong. The fact is that professional drivers are allowed to earn their living up to and beyond the age of 65, therefore 70 is not old. However this person may have been a danger all their driving career, only you were not arround to see it.
My mother was very poor at night and usually got home before dark if possible, surrendering the driving to me when we travelled together.
I would say that in say 50 years time you should be stopped from driving if you have that attitude. I notice however that pedestrians are not given right of way at junctions, which as far as I know is a law that has never been repealed and it is the 25 year olds who lead the the team in running people over who are just crossing the road.
You will just have to learn as others have that defensive driving and now great care when crossing any road are now necessary.

Well, well, so you have just passed your driving test, so now you will learn to drive. Are you aware that when drivers reach 70 years of age, they have to have a medical check by their doctor every year and he decides if the person is fit to drive. They also have to have an eyesight test. Are you also aware that 90% of traffic accidents are caused by 18 to 35 year olds. I am 70 years old, and I still drive a Taxi in the city, and have held a full licence since 1961. I am forever getting cut up by smart *** young drivers who are an accident waiting to happen. I was involved in an accident 10 years ago when a young driver trying to reverse parking, reversed into me. That is the only time I have ben in an accident. The young women drivers today are just as bad and just as rude. They are more aggresive in their driving . So, don't knock the oldies because you will be old one day and you will drive slower and more carefully because by then you will have more sense driving with todays traffic.

The stupid questions... well..

you'd think they were obvious and completely unecassary...
however they are so obvious so they can separate the normal people who can drive, from tyhe complete idiots.

Ive got a friend bless her lovely girl, cant pass the theory, doesnt know where the engine bits are and couldnt point out where the oil goes if her life depended on it.

Id love to say they werent necassary but there are a suprising number of people who are just that thick.

I'd say the test reflects todays society.

Stuff that you could take for granted 60 years ago when the old dears learned to drive is just too complex for todays generations.

and yeah i agree there should be a re-testing after driving for a certain amount of time even if it just an eyesight test.

however a court can order it if these people end up in an accident.

1) Most of the questions are to show your maturity or lack of behind the wheel of a car
2) Insurance rates are higher for under 21 due to stats...proven stats
3) Husband is a Justice Court Judge and says 95% of his speeding tickets and reckless driving is by young women drivers....fact and in public court house record
4) Yes, I agree that ones much older that have become handicapped should have to go in and be tested for reflexes
5) If you think 70 is old in this day and age....I feel sorry for you, you haven't seen the real world yet....people at that age are still in the work force for they get to work on time, don't take off sick all time, and are not there just for 5:00 and payday
6) When did being able to check your oil become mandatory for driving? or have to do with causing wrecks?
7) and no I am not 70

Perhaps because you were degrading and insulting to ones in there 70s as if they had lost their minds. " these people should be stopped from driving once they reach 70
they cut round abouts pull infront of people and dont know their left from their right".....so yes we read you loud and clear...if you wanted to complain about the driving test and the cost of it why not do just that......what did being in the 70s have to do with anything? Yes, they had to take a test and FYI the 70 y/o now were way past the age of hand cranked cars when they took their test.

Don't complain, I have a class 'A' CDL. You want to take a test try that one.

I drive over 150000 a year. The worst drivers I have ever seen are young girls who have no idea how to drive except push the gas and the brake.

The older drivers are a big irritant, but mainly because they get in the fast lane and drive slow not caring about anyone else on the road.

Of course I have seen my share of little old women too short to see over the wheel.

I think the driving tests need to be much harder than they are now. Here in Florida the main test for driving is to check your pulse. If you have one you can drive.

Also, older drivers need to have a hearing and vision test at each renewal.

but they also drive to the store once a week and out to coffee every morning. They aren't your people putting on 300 miles a week. Usually insurance companies and self control take people out of the driving game. Most people I know stop driving when they have a close call, or an accident and realize that they aren't able to do anything about it.

This lady should realize that she isn't what she used to be and needs to find a driver. She isn't safe, but then again, you could be 100 and still be a great driver...

I hope all to hell that you dont act like this when you are driving. You know, self richeous. I disagree with the age statistic of accidents, 90% of every accident I have ever, and I mean ever seen or read about was caused by a female. Im not going by age either, I mean it was caused by a female. I think that insurance companies should go on the person, not a statistic. But because it would take too much time and effort, they simply go by the numbers.

So I am just waiting because they are changing now, its going from males being the worst drivers due to aggressivness and immaturity, to females being the worst drivers because of their fashion sense and stupidy. I dont ***** about the things I personally cant change, I just sit back and watch the change. Because in the U.S. where things are ran by a bunch of retards, there is always a change of mind that will ultimatly affect you.

you complain about the driving Test, you paid 35 pounds, that's funny,go to Germany, you have to go there to a driver school, pay thousands of euro and need to have a specific amount on driving hrs before you can think about to go to the test and if you are under 18 you can't get a license, your guy don't know what it really mean to have driver license and maybe you are right some of the older people should not drive anymore and in Germany you need to go and let test you and your eyes at a specific age. but I'm complete agree with most of the answers on here, because not the older people are the one what cost most of the accidence, its young crazy people what not realize how dangerous it can be to drive and what think when have enough alcohol they still can drive, i think the insurance are still not expensive enough for people under 21.
