War is hell. War should only be undertaken under the more exigent and direst of circumstances. Obviously if your country is attacked, you have to defend. Our involvement in World War II, for instance, was entirely just. The fact that we were also helping to eliminate an aggressive fascist dictatorship in Germany was a positive aspect although that was not the reason we went to war. Trying to perform a much needed humanitarian effort may also involve a country in war.
The war in Iraq was entirely unjust since Iraq hadn’t attacked us and was not a threat to us. As for the humanitarian aspect, there are several oppressive dictatorships throughout the world but we are not planning on invading any of them because they are either friendly to the US and/or have no oil.

Quite frankly I see few good answers here!
There are absolutely no positives in war.
To support the US economy through war is sick but your economy would suffer greatly if your arms manufactures weren't building weapons. The US needs to be at war
Bao P -- Nobody seems to have learned, people have been fighting forever. The US is fighting two wars now - Iraq and Afghanistan and a third one if we believe they are fighting terrorism.
snowwebster2 -- you can hardly believe any propaganda coming out of the US in Iraq! Especially after all the lies that were spouted to go to war in Iraq.
If the US really wanted the UN to work they should go by the rules. The UN (except for veto power for a few) is democratic in nature. If you believe in democracy play by the rules. The rest of us do.
And how humanitarian was your war in Viet Nam? Who were you trying to help there. Don't tell me that you went to war there because you liked the South Vietnamese. It was a Hocus Pocus way of test your resolve over that of the USSR.
In no way was Iraq ever implicated as harbouring terrorists nor of having WMD. I am sure now, though, that Iraq is becoming a terrorist stronghold and prove to be a great danger long after this war and the civil have ended. Its interesting to note that all of you agree that this is a war even though war has never been declared.
Tell me was the war in Korea or Viet Nam ever declared?

Well the Kurds now have peace which is something they certainly haven't had for 30 years. Most Shiite would agree that getting Saddam out of power was a very good thing. Iraqi's now have a democratic government that is fighting for its young life. Afghanistan also has a democratic society where women now have rights and are even allowed to get an education. You have to break a few eggs to make an omelet. War is not pretty, but sometimes it's worth it, and in this case it is worth it for the greater good.

Saddam is ineffective. He lived by employing the sword, got here to power by employing the sword and died by employing the noose. the folk will take a whilst earlier they get used to the assumption of freedom, yet exchange has fairly got here to Iraq. And confident it replaced right into a sturdy exchange. From a ruler who governed with worry and injustice, to now a ruling government attempting to return to grips with democracy. exchange is under no circumstances uncomplicated and a few individuals who've held power for consequently long (the tub social gathering) do not want to surrender the ability. consequently i could analyze on the topic of the life earlier Saddam, in the time of Saddam and contemporary with Saddam long long gone to fulfill his maker.

Well...despite my desire to be sarcastic...
The benefits of war...well, the metal industries, the weapons industries, and various other kinds of companies get a lot of business in times of war. Also, seems to me that a lot of people don't usually give a rat's *** about global issues; but it seems like it's when there's a war, people really start paying attention, start finding out what's going on, and start expressing their opinions. Finally, for whatever reason, wars and other traumatic events seem to bring people together; first usually in support, then eventually as the war drags out and more peoplele, in opposition.

It's to force political solutions when somebody doesn't get scared from talk. First somebody is told to do or not do something, if they still do it or don't do it, then sanctions are put on an organization and if that doesn't work then war is the only solution besides backing down from the request.

Of course wars aren't that much positive. But only if it can stop the violence or the corruption the country has suffered from before the war. The end of it is the best. It will stop killing humans and wars can save lives.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. "
The positive points of war???
"We will bury you!"
----Nikita Kruschev
"Death to America, Death to Israel"
------Islamic Radicalism Goal
Winston Churchill on appeasing Hitler:
"England has been offered a choice between war and shame. She has chosen shame and will get war."
The tree of liberty must be refreshed time and time again with the bloods of patriots and tyrants" -Thomas Jefferson
There will always be wars and rumors of war.
----The Holy Bible
Netanyahu: "Iran is gearing up to produce 25 atomic bombs a year, 250 bombs in a decade...they are building missiles that will reach the Eastern seaboard of the United States. Like Nazism, they start with the hatred of the Jews, they want to annihilate the Jews, but that is only the first stop. The goal is Western civilization"
"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members ... It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons."
-- Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002
The positive points of war - stopping dumbass tyrants and dumbass radical movements designed to destroy our way of live.
But there are negative points too:
General Omar Bradley
In war there is no prize for the runner-up.
General Douglas MacArthur
It is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it.

probably the only thing we get out of war is mourning. but sometimes, we learn from that and prevent it the next time it comes around. its like a kid that touches fire for the first time. nothing good comes off it, except he doesnt do it again
another ugly fact is that technology (mainly war machines) get better at their jobs. i guess i'll leave it up to you guys to figure out whether it's a good thing...

War can stimulate an economy as new things are needed to replace damaged/destroyed items. However, a life can never be repaced with a new person.
