Book an afternoon show as a suprise; much more memorable than bowling or a zoo which you can do aynwhere and there are some really great ones on at the moment. You can book them on the net via ticketmaster.

The following are all really great entertainment which you couldn'y really fail to enjoy;
Spamalot - comedy
Chicago - usually a minoir Celeb in the main role
The Sound of Music - see Connie as Maria!
The Lion King - Fantastic music, effects and dance.

Then afterwards you can go to Soho/China town for a meal and if you're still up for it see a late night movie in Leicster square.

How lucky he is to have a girlfriend who cares enough to plan
a fab time for him.

Being 17, I'm guessing pubs and bars are out of the question.

If it's a day thing, and this amazing Spring weather continues, I'd aim for something outdoors. A picnic in Kew Gardens can be a great day out, especially if you chat well. Get some really nice picnic food and a blanket and head to Kew on a weekend, or Richmond Park, which is not as stunning, but is free (and has wild deer!).

Another great date would be to head to Portobello road markets on a saturday or sunday afternoon, cruise the markets, then go to the Electric Cinema in Notting Hill for a film. It's more expensive than Vue or Odeon, but serves food and drinks and has great big comfy couches. Make sure you book beforehand

How about the London Eye, then along the south bank, browse the second hand books, National Film Theatre, IMAX, keep going - Globe theatre.
