I adore American Staffordshires! I have a staffie/ rotti cross and I do have children, my youngest being 6 when I got mine. We have already decided when we get another dog it will be a staffie! Mine is always confused for a pitbull ( which, by the way is not an AKC recognized breed).

Staffordshire terriers...aka pit bull. The problem with them is that if they are not properly trained, they can be difficult to handle. They're widely publicised as being vicious dogs and killers. While I believe that any dog can be like that if treated badly, Staffies tend to have a naturally violent nature. That's what they were bred for. They were bred to be fighting dogs, not family pets. Personally, I think that families with children should avoid these dogs. They can be unpredictable if provoked by curious children.
