Have someone sit with her and pay her attention. Give her something to chew or a toy she likes, or maybe a cushion or a piece of fabric she likes to lie on. Another tactic is to ignore her when she does whine; sounds a little nasty, but unless she's feeling pain, eventually she'll stop.

Why is she whining, is she lonely, is she afraid. When does she whine normally. The dog has to do this on other occasions. Try to understand why she whines if you want it to stop. The problem could be solved by doing something as easy as placing her in a crate, which is a smaller area and she feel safe, dogs like to feel safe, my dogs go in my car only so often and I place them in the crate in the back of the car and they never make a sound because the know where they are and they are comfortable. Dogs do not need to look out the window they don't understand what is happening.

my 11 year old GSD barks whenever he gets in the car but its just in excitement as we are usually going for a walk. I've found that if I turn up the volume on the car stereo he settles down then I'm able to turn the volume down again.
He also doesnt like being so far away from us - we have an estate car too and I've lost count of the number of times he's managed to climb through the tiny gap between the dog net and the side of the car to get in beside us! Give your dog a chew or something to keep her occupied for the journey.
My other dog used to be absolutely petrified of cars and if we managed to get her in she whined constantly - as she was thrown from a moving car by her previous owner, but with a lot of perseverence by making sure she was going somewhere enjoyable at the end of the journey she now gets in with no problems and is quiet for the journey - she does get car sick if we go a longer journey but you can't win them all!!
Good luck

This could be for a number of things, fear, excitement or even sickness.Try not to give her attention while your traveling, even shouting is attention to a dog and she knows this gets a reaction out of you.Try only very short journeys at first, when she whines ignore her or if you can pull over and wait untill she's calmed down.Another thing to consider is by putting sheets up around all the back area where your dog travels sometimes dogs dont like to see whats going on outside or it makes them feel sick. There are natural herbal remedys on the market that help calm dogs down and prevent sickness so this may be something you want to look into.Good luck.

Five year's old, and doesn't like driving in cars? What? I was thinking she's still a "puppy" because of the whining, however, I've owned dogs and she's more like a middle aged dog!! In doggie years anyway. Lets see, all of my dogs all of my life always loved putting there heads out the window!! Do you have any children, or grandchildren, or could you borrow someone child for a day, to hold her, head out the window so she can see how fresh the air smells, and how wonderful it is to drive in a car? Because she's obviously never gotten the chance to put her head out the door window, and once she does I'll just bet cha' she loves driving in cars after that!! Good luck to you & your dog!! Smile!!!

Keep praising her. We got our dog from DogsTrust Bridgend and he nerver liked going in the car. We made it pleasant for him by taking him on short trips to the beach so he knew the car would get him to a nice place. Get someone to sit in the back, keep a bag of treats with you and keep praising and stroking her on the journey. Also put a blanket and one of her toys in. We used a Kong which you can but from Pets At Home or any other pet store and fill it will treats like Philladelphia cheese or some dog food. She'll love it and it will distract her from the journey! hope this helps! good luck =] xxx

because she wants out. maybe to use the bathroom. I always
let my dogs use the bathroom before they get in the car.
And she could be afraid of riding in the car. Each dog has their own little quirks. My sister's dog runs & hide when she hears the words bath & stink or if she see the towels that are used to dry her with after a bath. I had a Shiba -Inu and she didn't like wind..And if it was windy out and she started shaking then the weather was going to be bad. And she didn't want a fan to blow on her either no matter how hot the weather.
And your dog could associate the car with going to the vet [ or somewhere unpleasent ], that is if she don't like to go to the vet . My Eskimo Spitz don't mind going to the vet just as long as he is going, and he can't wait to get out & go in to see the vet. And at 5 years of age , I dout that you could break her from that. If you started riding her in the car when she was a puppy maybe she wouldn't of been like that.

What you should do is put yourself in her position, perhaps after five years she has become rather worried about your driving.!! Don't forget if you corner fast she has no seat belt to save herself like you do. Does she lay with all four legs spread wide apart. or is one covering her eyes.?
Or maybe she thinks it's about time she had ago at the wheel.
Who can tell what a dog thinks they're not stupid, If your old man moans a lot, they understand.
Anyway your lucky I have three parrots two of which abuse me all the time and the third is only a baby, so I expect I have it to come.

Take her lower back to the place you acquire her for yet another 2 months - she would be in a position to learn chew inhibition from her mom and littermates. She must be with them for no less than 8 weeks, if no longer 10-12 weeks. in many states, this is unlawful to split a puppy from this is mom till this is 8 weeks. another hour is approximately suited to a a million month old puppy. the rule of thumb of them for them with the flexibility to hold it rather is # of Months +a million, so 2 hours is optimal on schedule for a a million month old puppy.
