I have a Shitz tsu and it is the greatest dog that I have ever owned. We shave him in the summer into a little lion cut to keep him cool and he looks so cute! He is a very small breed so he fits in a bag easily. They are very loyal. They are also a quiet breed when they are out places with their owners. We are also considering getting a Pappilion which is probably the cutest dog on the planet. Good luck!

Adopt a dog. There are millions of dogs of all sizes and personalities in need of homes. Go to your shelter and meet each one, getting to know them as individuals. I guarantee one will jump out at you (figuratively) as a perfect match for your lifestyle. The beauty of adopting an adult dog is that they are more apartment-appropriate than puppies and have been behaviorally tested. Once you meet the dog, you know what you're getting - they won't grow up to be a totally different dog!
I would even suggest trying to foster first. By fostering, you would be giving a temporary home to a needy dog until it finds an adoptive family. This will let you know if you are really ready for a lifelong commitment to an animal! You may find that over the course of fostering, you dog grows on you so much that you decide to adopt it!

well there are many differant kinds of small dogs. italian greyhounds are cute. poodles. weinerdogs the long haired ones are very cute. the only problem with dogs you take everywere with you is they get an axiety disorder. that when you can't take them some were with you they cry and cry and cry!!!!!! that can couse lots of problems with neighbors landlords roomates. couse it gets really annoying, ever tryed brushing your teeth while holding a weinerdogg? how about the dishes? they are very hard to train once they get that way so be careful. paris and lindsay make it look so cool, but trust me it's a pain. and you can't take them everywhere like paris does. try getting in to an applebee's or fridays with a dog in your purse forget it. most places won't allow them unless they are service dogg. and people will know. so good luck

I would recommend a miniture schnauzer. They may be a bit bigger than you are looking for but if you selected a runt of a litter, it would not be more than 12-14 pounds. Mini schnauzers have one advantage - they do not shed and never smell doggy. They are extremely intelligent, easily trained, loyal and good protectors. If you hate dog hair all over or are allergic, this is your dog.
