My neighbor, a devout Baptist was telling me Satan constantly gets into his head and tempts him. I asked him how does Satan have time to get in his head along with all the other billions of people on this planet. If Satan is capable of reading our thoughts and planting ideas, he must have a great computer system in hell, at least a few dozen Crays. My question is where in the bible does it say that Satan is capable of reading the minds of billions of people simutaneously and plant tempting thoughts?

(I wonder if Satanists can offer input as well)

I am aware that Satan is a mythical character, my question makes sense in that I am seeking the justification behind the belief. I have looked through the bible and see nothing in there that supports this perceived mental capacity.

1. Satan does exist, he is not just a mythical figure. He is mentioned in the Bible 54 times by the name Satan.
2. Satan is not all powerful. no he can not read our minds but he is clever and he knows what will tempt us. If he tempted Jesus do you think he is willing to leave us alone. However he does have power and he is dangerous.
3. A third of the angels followed Satan. I think that's enough to cover the whole earth.

GOD<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>SATAN

Good <<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>Bad

One is the anti of the other. If one can do it the other can too.

Everything / everyone has both characteristics in their makeup.
Good works people have just as much power as bad works people. Baptists have to keep their guard up to ensure that the bad works people don't get the upper hand in their lives. Normal people can usually choose which way to go. Baptists seem to have a harder time with that consept.
I can't remember exactly where it was in the Good Book , possibly, Revelations. When Lucifer and the fallen angels were down graded and fired from the heavens and the company of the heavenly angels.

Please excuse my laugh.

In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.

The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.

Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.

Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.

Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It’s meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

I am sure this is not a serious question, but I will answer it anyway. Someone may learn something.

Satan (formerly Lucifer), at one time was perfect, he was the anointed cherub that coverth. He was full of wisdom and beauty. He was upon the mountain of God, there to protect God's throne and person, and had complete access into the presence of the Almighty.

Lucifer was perfect in all his ways until iniquity was found in him. He was cast out of heaven, then this bright and shinning angel leader became the devil, the archenemy of God and of the people of God. This discerning "X-ray" by God examines the heart of Lucifer. His sin is diagnosed as including 5 horrible transgressions: not being content with the high and holy position God gave him, he rebelled, and attempted to seize the throne for himself. Satan is now the accuser of God and His people. His nature is of the vilest sort. His character is founded on deceit, viciousness, hatred, and cruelty. His ambition is to oppose God's will in every way. With all that said:

I think maybe it's like the Sims. Satan can visit all the houses at the same time that is different times for him. Then he deletes your fridge and phone so that you starve and sometimes he will build walls around you to make you pee your pants. He spends all your hard-earned Simoleans on ugly furniture and makes sure you have an uncomfortable bed, too.

Satan is not capable of reading minds. But then, he does not have to. He watches. Listens. Sees what we do, hears what we say. He is not stupid. He plays on our desires, fears, tendencies. And he is very good at what he does. He's been doing it for a very, very long time.

To illustrate: he watched Judas. Judas used to steal money from the money box. Judas was a thief who obviously loved money. So what did Satan do? Tempt him with adultery? Tempt him with an overindulgence of wine? No, he used money. He used Judas' own greed against him. It really is not so difficult.

That's just more example of guilt-ridden Christianity. He's making up excuses to hide his insecurity. What has Satan done to tempt him? Nothing, he's tempting himself, those are his own desires.

Belief in Satan is merely a handy device to excuse human pathology. We're the problem, period.

you are putting human boundaries on Satan, he was a top angel of G_D...he is FAR from the limits of man.

Satan is not some beast, bull, red pointed eared dude......as the book says.....he's an angel of light.

Ever sit there say just watching TV....and say your little brother is there playing.....and say he's building out of Lego's on the floor. you then realize he has this building and out of no where, this little voice says....." oh just kick it over ". that is Satan....cause why would you otherwise want to be mean to your own blood, your own brother, let alone upset him or hurt his feelings? all things against G_D....only Satan would put this evil item into your head.

That is what your neighbor means.
