Give it some time if you can't wait talk to your doctor about drugs that give immediate panic relief such as Xanax in the mean time until the citalopram takes full effect. I was treated for anxiety with Prozac but I couldn't wait so the doctor prescribed Xanax and said take it only when you feel the worst symptoms of panic attack. So I used the Xanax and after my Prozac started working I just have the Xanax sitting on the shelf. So ask your doctor about Xanax and only take when you feel your "going insane". The minuite you swallow the Xanax pill you start to feel invincible to your fears. Sometime youll even laugh at them. It's a wounderful feeling, however it can be habit forming if misused so use only when the citalopram can't wait.

If you need immediate releif from anxiety ask your doctor about Xanax, since it is one of the few anti-anxiety drugs that work immediatly when taken. However that drug should only be used sparingly.

Social anxiety can cause these feelings, which can also lead to severe depression,

if not you could be suffering from Generalized Anxiety
Disorder..http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/general_anx...

There is hope; I've been there, and still am there, it is a long, hard struggle. I recommend
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/cognitive_b... worked best for me, with mild anti-anxiety meds. I suffered from social anxiety for over 15 years. I've tried individual therapy, and group therapy and studied psychology for 10 years, as a profession, but also with the hope to cure myself.

Depending on your comfort level, you could go to a psychologist that practices CBT and specializes in anxiety disorders, seek a group therapy, or create one. Usually those that do attend the group therapy are a bit more high functioning because as you know, it can be difficult to speak in a group.

Another idea is to see if there are any local research studies being conducted that you could participate in.

The program that finally worked the best for me is this one: http://www.socialanxiety.us/findinghelp.... and I was lucky enough to have a structured behavioral group to go along with it. Sometimes the people that actually attend this program come back home and form groups.

I recommend a mild anti-anxiety med in addition to CBT therapy.

Any questions, let me know ... I can't tell you how much this has improved my life!

A Dr. will have you try different meds. to see which one your body "takes" to.

The drugs that I have learned about can help certain disorders but might not benefit the actual condition which is why a Dr. will have you try 1 or 2 kinds.

I might not be correct in this, but have had success with Prozac starting at the low dose, and I have a family member who takes Zoloft.

These, are "tailored" to our needs. But, only your Dr. can monitor what you take and how long.

Hope you get better and on the right medicine.

Hang in there. It will seem like a miracle when it kicks in.

I can actually remember almost the minute when the first antidepressant that I took started to work. My mind stopped racing and I had some peace of mind. I stopped worrying about every little thing.

my doc put me on neurontin and it worked immediately. It also helped sleep too. If the meds arent working and you are at a level where you cant hold it down give your doc a call. Be completely honest with how you are feeling so they know you arent messing around.
