are parakeets good pets?

I have kept parakeets for 40 years, and absolutely love them.

Iver the years I have also had finches, canaries, lovebirds, cockatiels, and conures too, and loved every one of them.

Parakeets are a good choice for a first bird pet.

If you want to bond with your bird, a hand-raised Cockatiel is a better choice than a Parakeet.

A young, hand-raised Cockatiel can learn to imitate your words and sit on your shoulder.

A Parakeet is very pretty to look at and makes cute chirping noices that brighten up your home. You might be able to tame Parakeets with constant handling but they're not quite as robust as Cockatiels. In my experience Cockatiels have a longer life span than Parakeets.

If you don't want lots of interaction with your Parakeet, it might be a perfect choice for you.

Keep in mind that all birds throw a lot of seed around and can't go 24-hours without food. The cage needs to be cleaned about every other day and they need to have food and water available continuously.

I've had multiple Parakeets as well as Cockatiels and I prefer cockatiels all the way around!

Yes they are i had on a couple of years ago that would sit on my hand,my shoulder and never bit me once!!!! THey make a really good pet and they can learn words my parakeet learned pretty bird!

parakeets make wonderful pets. robbee my littleist one used to sleep with me when i would take a nap. she also used to give kisses.

they can be very interactive but they are a bird and you really can't do much with birds (save the maccaws and parrots)
