The best thing to do is earn their trust.
The way to do that is spend a lot of time around them. Let them see your hand inside the cage and remove it from the cage.
Gradually they will understand that you are no threat, then work on earning their trust enough to where you can touch a foot then withdraw the hand from the cage.
After you have earned the trust to touch a foot then work on earning the trust to touch both feet and the beak in sequence.
After earning this level of trust; work on earning the trust to stand on a finger.
Just take small steps.

The Birds Feathers Will Grow Back On Their Own. After Molting. You Should Make Sure That Your Bird CAGE Is In A Room Where Your CAT Is Unable To Bother Them.. Cats do cause Trauma For BIRDS. They Will Never Be Completetly HAPPY With A Cat Roaming Around In The SAME Room.. Gd Luck

You can attach the parakeet's cage to the ceiling by a hook, this makes it more difficult for the cats to get to them. Also, you may want to put them in a closed off room where the cats can't go into. As for the bird's tail feathers, they will take some time to grow back, considering they are long feathers, but give it time. Also, you can try putting a towel over the cage, this helps them to calm down too.
Wish you the best, and good luck.

I have a cockatiel and 2 cats and I have the bird's cage hanging from the ceiling and I also use twist ties { like you find on bread or with trash bags } to keep his cage door as well as his food and water closed in case a cat smacks his cage they won't be able to knock out his bowls and get to bird. I also put a small bungy cord on back of cage { near bottom } then a screw hook in the corner of wall where cage is then hook the other end of bungy cord to it to keep cage from spinning if they hit it ! If a cat gets on desk which is right next to cage then I spray them with water ! They usually don't even get that close to him cause I am at the desk also , here talking to you guys !! You cannot let bird out unless you first cage your cat. You shouldn't risk it , the bird will always loose to a cat ! The feathers will grow back and you can cover the cage to calm him down. Use a dark sheet or blanket , the bird will think it's night and calm down and probably go to sleep ! When you clean the cage or give them food and water , do it quickly then put the wire ties back on . If you don't have small bungy cord then just find a shoe string or something similar to tie to cage and attach to wall. He will be fine , just don't let it happen again !

Well first off you should move the birds as far away from the cats as possible, lol. I would call your vet, they can probably answer this question better then I can and I've been a parakeet owner for years. They'll probably give you the name of a vitamin to put in their water, it will help calm them down so their not as stressed. As for the feathers, you're just going to have to wait that one out. When his feather's start growing back, try putting vinegar on his food. This will help so that his feather's don't itch as much coming in so hopefully he won't start pulling them out!

I would say from now on keep the cats at a great distance from the birds!!! as for keeping them calm it might be a good idea to put them in a quiet room with just them(the birds) and on nice days open the window for them to hear nature but as for the feather will just have to be patient with that!! I hope this helped let me know how they turn out!!!! :)

play with him daily and in depth; make him feel nurtured like a baby child; google or yahoo the question. try a product from petco/pet store that helps grow back feathers; try making him feel good around the cat if you can. put the cat to its cage and show him that no damage will be done when your around. stroke your parakeet and massage him behind his neck and behind him wings. do this for about 2 months daily. thanks for asking! hoe this helps! =)

either put them next to your body and cuddle them or put them back in the cage and put a blanket over them so that they can hide.
