Most modern DVD players are sold as 'region free' i.e. they will play any DVD. You've got to be VERY unlucky to by a Region 2 only DVD player these days.

I have a Sony DVD recorder that was region free from the box, no hacks necessary.

not if you bought the dvd player in the US. US dvd players are programmed to play only Region 1! i've heard of places that will program your dvd player to play any region dvd, but that means your dvd player is no longer under warranty.

or you have to go through the lengthy and illegal process of ripping your DVDs and stripping them of their region encoding before copying them (for personal use only of course). But that only matters if you have a DVD burner as well.
