Sadly, not to many places are left in your area. There is one a ways south of Lansing, Illinois airpot, and there are two between Chicago and Ottawa, Illinois. Off of 80. Look up Soaring sites on line. Clow airport ( Romeoville, Bolingbrook)used to be great, but no longer, the field is now surrounded by houses and buisinesses. You will have to travel almost an hour to find a sailplane site now, Good luck!

Thank you for this question. After reading about all the people who have flung themselves out high window in South Chicago this is the first time I've seen a resident who wants to fly more horizontal than vertical. This makes my day.
As a pilot you must know air conditions over the cityscape is risky for your recreational vehicle. Read any facts on updraft of lake wind meeting urban high rise? Like base-jumping this is the edge of an envelope for you.

Hmm, you could try Minden, Nevada. Many gliders have set records there. Minden is bound to have a lot of Gliding schools. Search it on a search engine.
