I am an ex pat and have lived abroad for many years hay fever free but within a day of returning home to the UK the hay fever is there. I take Zirtek which you can buy over the counter but some days that doesn't help, I take cold remedies which help a bit with the nasal problem. When I feel really terrible I have to go to bed. I am sorry I can't help much but you have my sympathy.

You can keep your sinuses flushed out from foreign particles. Try a saline nasal RINSE (not a spray) A full warm water saline rinse goes in one nostril and out the other. It draws out all the gunk and shrinks the tissue (like swimming in the ocean). I've been doing it at work too. You can travel with the bottle and the saltadd water when you get there.
The buffered salt doesn't 'sting' as much as plain salt water. You can use a new method like Nasopure, or the vintage, Netipot. The special bottle and salt is about $20.
You can do this a often as you like with no bad side effects.
You don’t need a prescription for this therapy. So if you live in a state like mine, they’ve pretty much “outlawed” sudafed medicine. Drug-free is really the way to go on a frequent-use basis. (I put in a link for “what” and “how” – there’s also some good info on wiki)

Try taking a spoonful of honey per day (local honey from the area you are visiting) that sometimes helps, otherwise if you are prone to hay fever you will get it if exposed to whichever hay/grass /tree you are allergic to.This is obviously going to be difficult to avoid, so why not try some anti allergy tablets from the chemist if the Honey doesn't work.

i live in the UK and get terrible hay fever, its even started now. but... when you're over here you can buy over the counter tablets from practically any shop that stop the symptoms. i used to use clarytin (but they can be a bit expensive). A lot of the supermarkets sell their own brand allergy relief tablets that are a lot cheaper and do the same job. some of them can make you a bit drowsy but they do non-drowsy versions that i would recommend you get.

I don't know how true this is but someone told me yesterday that by eating honey produced local to the area you live in helps prevent hay fever. If you like honey it may be worth a go?

you are suppose to wash your clothes after being outside, you carry the pollen in on your clothes. It wouldn't hurt to wash your hair because it comes in on your hair too. Blow your nose after being out and wash your hands and good luck. I hate hay fever.

I have heard an old wives tale about eating the local honey from where you are visiting.
No sure if it works, good luck
