Go down to where it says "Dvajastambham" and there is a picture of it. I want to know about the 2 things there, called dvajastambham and balipitham. It gives a brief description, but I'd like to understand it a bit better. Thanks.

One is a flag post. The other is the sacrificial post.

The flag is to announce a special event at the temple. The balipeetam is for the devotees to place their offerings.

To my understanding I will try answering your question. Dvajastambham is a kind of Antenna like structure which receive the cosmic rays and bring it down to the premise of temple. Balipitham might have been invention of those who want to sacrifice the animals. But nowadays there is no such ritual in most of the temples. Only in certain remote places, the ignorant still practice this ritual. Hence in most of the temples the 'Balipitham' may be for name sake only. nagarajan.

Ohhhh, idol worship... Exactly as Christians place such an importance on taking communion (the body of Christ is a cracker, and the blood of Christ is wine, posing as Jesus himself!) and passing a collection plate for offerings.

Silly.

Please be open to other people's beliefs, even if you don't believe in them yourself. I am proud to say that I am an atheist, but am very much interested in other religions. I'm sorry that I can't help you with your question, as I don't know enough about Hinduism, other than I have spoken with several traveling monks and have read the Bhagavad Gita. But it just bothers me when a Christian will just outright bash Hinduism for "idol worship" just because someone asked a question about it.

People... please, PLEASE have more respect for people. Just because you don't understand something doesn't mean that it's wrong.

Lovely lady, I am writing to you for a good reason. I can not answer your question because i am sadly ignorant about your faith. I only know a little about it. But I think people like Angelz are very unkind and disrespectful. Jesus taught us to love our neighbors and you are our neighbor. She is in direct rebellion to one of our greatest commandments when she says such an uneccessarily mean thing to you. Please do not take her answer as a proper representation of our faith. God is love. I therefore think the very best way I can serve and honor God is to love all of humanity and strive to promote peace and mutual understanding. To my knowledge Hindus are also human beings and therefore I love and respect you as my sister created by God. I think it is a very good idea to Love Everybody. Peace be with you.
