Will a patchup work or does it usually end up in disaster ?
Please advise.

Sometimes it just prolongs the inevitable. You have to take a hard objective look at the situation. If it makes sense to give it another try then do it, but only one more.
If the breakup was over cheating then just move on. Cheaters always cheat again.

disaster.. mines was fine till i joined the military then it got ugly.
but if u feel really strong for the other person, and they know that then give it a try. u never know what will happen until you've done it. sometimes it's that break inbetween that helps you two out rather than staying together when there are big differences between you two. you both can see the others point of view more clearly when you're not together (like an outside point of view)

Disaster, if I ever see my ex out, oh boy, lol, I'm gonna knock his little "lets take some time after I wasted half a year with such an @ss" face off. Don't do it, you were meant 2 be apart.

But it depends on the people. Some friendships survive. Others don't.

If my ex got run over by a truck. I would send the truck driver a thank you card and throw a party. Happiness is seeing my EX sky diving without a parachute.

Either 2 mature people can resolve conflict, and take responsibilty for their actions, and the relationship or they can't.

do you go for vacation every year to the same place ??? if yes then patch up will work for you.
this same rule applies to your ex as well....!!!
