If I buy a HD TV do I need to upgrade my Direct TV or continue too use my old equipment?

I really don't want to buy the upgrade until I have to.

You can continue using the old equipment. If you want to watch HD channels then you will have to upgrade to a HD receiver and pay $10 extra a month.
