Seriously, there is a bit of confusion here. Some people say clearing away ear way is perfectly fine. Others say it's a necessary part of the bodies self protection. To Q-tip, or not to Q-tip?

I personally believe it's important to keep your ears relatively clean. It can become uncomfortable to have build up in the ear canal. Q-tips and other swab brands can be dangerous to use and push the build up deeper into your ear. There is a very nice little tool you can buy for a couple bucks that allows you to pull out debris without pushing anything deeper. It's safe to use on older children and adults. It has a plastic hook like the Dr. uses, but it has a rim around the handle which prevents you going too deep and harming your ears. If you can't find it at the store, ask the pharmacist if they carry them. You can buy them at Walgreens, Walmart, etc.

o my g-d! I LOVE to clean my ears. Gross gross..haha it's my nasty personal secret.

I generally rub my ear when it itches inside and that moves the wax around. Then like once a week I'll use a Q-tip only in the outer ear to remove wax. I know it is built up if it itches.

I also bought a liquid ear wax removal kit once. It's kinda annoying though, fills your ear up and you can't hear. But in the worst case scenario of too much wax, I use it.

Basic rule of thumb: dont' stick the Q-tip inside too deep. It will hurt! I've gone as far as sticking in a paper clip in my ear and that was just plain dangerous. Oh but scratching that itch was totally worth it!

Cheers!

I've got allergies, so I think my body prodeuces excess cerumin.. Aftrer every shower I gently swab out any extra wax..when it's soft from the warm water....sometimes there's nothing on the q-tip at all.
The key is to not go very far into your ear, to avoid injuty to the ear drum...that's why it doesnt say anything about going inside your ear on the q-tip box..they talk about swabbing the outside of your ear, which you can easily do with a tissue or washcloth.

You HAVE to clean your ears! Imagine not cleaning them for a week! I'd go for the Q-tipping.

Q-tip. absolutely. Doctors sometimes tell you not to, because so many people dig down into the ear canal and shove the cerumen in toward the eardrum.
But really, how gross is it when you happen to glance at a person and see all that gunk in their ear?....Ugh...

Get a cleaning kit at the Drug Store, it will show how to dissolve and flush ears. Then keep them clean by flushing in the shower daily.
