He's worked hard and has "got it all" if you know what I mean. But it would be nice to surprise him. Something over the top and extreme.

Call the resort where he's honeymooning and pay to upgrade them to the presidential suite or something! But whatever you do, don't do anything that will have any major effect on the wedding. Months and months of planning by him and his fiancee went into this wedding, so any surprises might not be appreciated. But paying to upgrade their room when they go on their honeymoon would be cool. Maybe some really nice spa packages would be nice too! Good luck!

If you have no limit as to what you are spending, then I would find out where they are staying for their honeymoon, make some dinner reservations for them and find out their favorite song and hire a band to play it at dinner for them. Another way to go would be to hire a chef and have their welcome home dinner waiting for them, including some wine and flowers. Or you could also have some wine and a cheese/fruit basket sent to their honeymoon suite. How about a spa gift near their honeymoon place, buy them some robes and include in a gift basket. There are a lot of choices, you just need to think of their favorite restaurants, drinks, food, places they would like to go to but never did, or how about some matching tops like a couple of "Hawaiian" shirts if they are planning on a warm honeymoon or some "Hooded sweatshirts" if its a cold place....you could make up a basket with the shirts, videos, snacks, miniature liquors, pre-paid phone card, throw away camera, ect....just try and be creative. Hope this help you a little, don't worry about it too much, I'm sure he will be grateful that you even went to any trouble and put so much of yourself into a gift for them, he'll love it! Have fun and good luck.

what a wonderful idea. what about fireworks for the wedding night, or the first night of their honey moon in a truly fabulous hotel, or once you know where they are going book them a wonderful day trip/ meal in a posh, posh restaurant, whatevers their thing, you know them best, so our ideas won't necessarily suit. In 'Love Actually' the groom surprised his bride with a gospel choir singing at their wedding and I always thought that was a lovely moment. How about an ice sculpture containing cocktails for the wedding? A luxurious weekend away in the run up to the wedding so they can relax together without worries for a night? Good luck, I'm sure it will be special!

Could you organise a surprise party for them for when they come back from the honeymoon, enlisting the help of his new in-laws? Still, it seems nice that they're not expecting you to pay towards their wedding. I'm sure a lot of parents wish that they had this complaint.

The other answers seem to be relying on cost.... without having to spend a fortune, why not arrange for a tee shirt for each guest, with an old photo (childhood ones are best) of the bride and/groom printed on it. These could be worn at the beginning of the evening 'do'. If the guests aren't tee-shirt-friendly, you could try the same idea with party hats!

This happened to a friend of mine and it started the evening 'do' with a lot of laughs and got all the guests talking to each other.

Hi I recently got married, my parents had a piper for us it was lovely, unless you live in Scotland this would usually be normal, how about doves or fireworks but they are quite common. My cousin had a chimney sweeper turn up after the ceremony with a pot of soot apparantley this is good luck. If your son is going abroad how about upgrading them on the flight.

Good luck with what ever you decide and for the big day.

Get a uniformed barbershop chorus, a large one (there are plenty), to march into the reception singing a suitable number (there are plenty), a quartet of them then to sing another, then all march out singing a third. The newlyweds will remember that all their lives and it won't cost the earth (maybe just a keg of ale for the lads and a charitable donation?)
Or alternatively, hire a (real) celeb to mingle and say hello to everyone there. (It'll probably cost the earth).
Or you two arrive late, by helicopter, or free-fall parachute, or driving a big red London bus-load of guests. All later than the bride.
Whatever... HAVE A NICE DAY YOURSELVES TOO!

A honey moon trip with hotel included, a small holiday apartment by the sea in Spain, the car he has been talking about "wrapped" with ribbons, The biggest & latest model TV set with gigantic plasma screen ....... You did say something over the top & extreme, right?

Send him and his bride on an unusual honeymoon.

Something like a cruise around the artic on a small freighter - they get into the icebergs a lot closer. Provide them with a special package of a rug for two, a thermos flask and dry biscuits tied up in brown paper and string - sort of like a Titanic theme.......

Do it after the wedding, if it backfires for some horrible reason then at least it wont ruin the special day. What about something funky like a trip to his local sealife centre where he n his missus can swim with the fish or something, I'd love that!
