He is truely a unique looking creature. He has a dark brindle coat, short floppy beagle looking ears, and a medium fluffy tail that curls up and over. A very gentle temperment, however he loves to bark at other dogs and passerbys, he's quite lazy, but can be a great escape artist when he feels like it. He has a stubborn side and is somewhat indifferent to dog food. He loves table scraps, but will sometimes just leave his dog food for hours, lying next to it "protecting it" from his sister. He is a cuddler and loves to sleep in the bed next to me. He weighs about 65lbs. I was told that he is beagle/hound mix, but are there any websites or places to look this kind of info up?

It cost around $1000-$1500 to have his blood checked.
But if you ask me he sounds like he is a mix of:
Part gentle, part lazy, part houdini, part stubborn, part finicky, part protective, part cuddler, part of your heart, and part of your family!

But on a serious side, the tail curling up could mean he might be part Shar-pei, the ears- part coon hound, the dark brindle- part american bulldog, pitbull, or amstaff. Being around 65 lbs all the dogs I mentioned range between 40-95 lbs.

no there are no websites. If you had posted a picture someone maybe able to identify some of the charicteristic. fluffy tail that curls up and over can be husky, pom, or yorkie. wow no one knew a yorkies tail could do that did they? I don't chop you yokie's tails looks just like a pom but not as fully. it is usually the shape of the head and chest, and nose that gives away what the breed is.

I heard on CNN that DNA testing is advancing in animal science, and a simple DNA test can determine exactly what breed or breeds your mixed breed dog consists of. AKC.org sells these kits to breeders, but not sure if their labs are equipped to complete a full geneology. I know they require DNA done on sires if they breed more than 7 litters a year. I believe the kit and testing costs $40.00. Not too expensive if you want to be certain, especially down the road, as he gets older, and certain ailments known to specific breeds it might come in handy.
