I've been a member most of my life. I'm now a Life Member. I simply can't understand how anyone who owns a firearm won't spend a few bucks a year to join the only substantial defender of our freedom to excercise our right to own firearms. Please consider it a requirement if you do enjoy guns. The new changes in Washington are something we should all be aware of as our rights have never been in as much jeapordy as they are about to be. Think about it and do your part to maintain our freedom! If you have legitimate reasons for not joining, voice them here for others to read. Perhaps some good could come of that too.

There is no age requirements on joining, I joined at age 12.......junior memberships are offered. This is about supporting the group that supports YOU and your beliefs. Also, owning a firearm is not a requirement either! For the political clout that's going to be needed in Washington in the dark years that are ahead of us, the number of members our orginization has is what will determine how much influence we will all have with the policy makers. Please consider spending the few dollars it takes to safeguard your right.

Established in 1871, the National Rifle Association of America(NRA) is a non-profit organization supported entirely by memberships fees and donations from public-spirited citizens.
The basic goals of the NRA are to:
Protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, especially in regard to the Second Amendment right of the individual citizen to keep and bear arms.
Promote public safety, law and order, and the national defense.
Train citizens and members of law enforcement agencies and the armed forces in the safe and efficient use of firearms.
Foster and promote the shooting sports at local, state, regional, national, and international levels.
Promote hunter safety and proper wildlife management.

So you see, WE are those cowboy republicans. The city of New Orleans just paid court costs to the NRA over their mishandling of Hurricane Katrina!

I'm a Benefactor Life Member of the NRA - It's about freedom and protecting it from liberals who would rather have subjects than citizens.

You can become a member for as little as $10 per year.

I buy memberships for family and friends who own firearms, it's my way of getting them started.

"Michael" you need to do a lot more research. Because if you believe your first sentence, it's only a half truth at best. The NRA most certainly does and has defended the 2nd Ammendment, though they do often compare the wording to other Ammendments to make a point in the courts. BTW It was not me who gave you the thumbs down for your answer.

I'm 20 and I own 3: 2 shotty's and a rifle. I'm NOT a NRA member, but my dad is. It's just a choice I made. It's not the NRA that's protecting our rights to have firearms. In my opinion, it's those cowboy republicans. Besides, where I'm from, you don't need to be in a club or a group to know that you support your right to own a firearm. We just go out and bring back a couple ducks and geese and let our actions speak louder than words. I'm young though, so maybe I still have a little to learn about how the world really works.

I have been a member since April '91 and a Life Member since Summer of '97. Everyone should be a member of the NRA. It's the largest and most successful of the gun rights groups. The reason for joining should be obvious.

I was for a very short time. But I did a little more research and found that they haven't defended our rights based on the second amendment in over 50 years. They sued over the Brady law based on the 10th and 14th amendments, not the second.I was also disgusted by the constant solicitation for donations. They sold my name and address to other groups, something I didn't appreciate. The rhetoric they used(anyone remember the jack-booted thugs comments?)was no better than anything the Brady-types said.I didn't agree with using Charlton Heston as a figurehead. He was a has-been actor who wasn't really known to the younger generation as anything other than Moses. He was never an outspoken voice for gun rights and there he was,President of the NRA.Ted Nugent is a better choice,in my opinion. He actually shoots and knows what he talks about. .And I also see the group as buying into the firearms for hunting argument more than self-protection reasons. On the other hand, their Eddie Eagle program was a positive move in regards to gun safety.I also really hate those people who say it should be a requirement for any gun owner to belong to the NRA.I will never join again as long as Wayne LaPierre and his type are there.I'm sure this will bring more than a few thumbs down, but you asked and I answered.
**Someone tell me the last case the NRA pursued on the basis of the second amendment and I'll stand corrected**

No I'm not a member because I'm not old enough to join.

Edit:

Why the thumbs down? He did ask.

Edit 2:

Well now I just need to find out how much per month for a junior membership!

Well, seeing almost everyone here has gotten a thumbs down for replying, no.

They act like California is not even part of the United States. Like some one else said, they got to learn to speak up and shut up. I know California is screwed up, but giving it up is not the answer. All they care about is the Mid West and the South.

I just joined recently because like you I am VERY concerned about the liberals trying to take away our rights to own firearms. If you are a student of history you know that in Nazi Germany, guns were prohibited to be owned by anyone except the police and the military.I do not hunt but I do enjoy target shooting and I am concerned about personal safety in this dangerous world we live in."Gun control" as they call it is a slippery slope we should not start down.

NRA calling our law enforcement people "jack booted thugs" at Waco is why I will never again pay NRA dues. The NRA needs to learn when to speak up and when to shut up. There is no reason what so ever to defend a bunch of wackos brain washing people and having sex with little kids. The ATF or somebody should have killed Koresh the self proclaimed messiah way before they tried.

Never has been a reason and never will be a good reason for all of us to own cop killer bullets either.

I have plenty of guns and I believe the best way I can keep them is to use them responsibly and buy a hunting license every year. The money supports wildlife programs and if millions buy hunitng licenses the government knows those people vote as well as contribute.

The NRA seems far too radical to me. A little compromise on good sense issues could go a long way to improving gun owners image and support from other sectors. Besides there are plenty of idiots out there who have no business owning so much as a pocket knife much less a gun.

The NRA has sold us out a few times with its compromises. I am am member of the GOA Gun Owners of America. They do not compromise so I support them. I do not bash NRA members, I just support another group.
