There are three ways.

1. Get an ultrasonic flea collar for your pets. I bought one 10 years ago for a dog, and the fleas were gone in four days.

2. Make a water of pennyroyal oil. Take 16 OZs cold water, and 20-25 drops of essential oil of pennyroyal oil. Add a tablespook of rum or vodka (to help the oil and water mix) then spritz the dog's bedding with this pennyroyal water every two or three days.

Fleas can not be around pennyroyal.

My brother used to raise and sell dogs and he planted penntroyal around the kennels

3. use flea collars or treatments for fleas.

I know of 3 recipes - I don't know if they work as I have not yet experienced a flea problem.

Fleas Flee Lotion:
12 Lemons
1 Gallon Water
slice each lemon in half and put them in a 1 gallon jar filled with water. Place jar in hot sun for 1 week until the lemons begin to turn mouldy, strain and re-bottle. Rub mixture well into dogs body daily. Refrigerate - keeps for a few weeks in the fridge.

Fleas Flee Powder

1 part each of powdered:
rosemary
pennyroyal leaves
rue leaves
southernwood leaves
wormwood leaves

combine together and apply liberally onto your dog (don;t forget armpits and genital areas)

Aromatic Homemade Flea Collar

1 Part each of:
chammomile flowers
pennyroyal leaves
rosemary
rue leaves
southernwood leaves
wormwood leaves
3 to 5 drops of eucalyptus oil (pure)

combine ingredients and spread on a scarf or bandanna, roll up around the herbs and tie around your dogs neck.

To prevent fleas - a few drops of eucalyptus oil on top of your dogs head, shoulder blades and tail base.

Even if you could get rid of the fleas on your dog, your home is most likely infested also.People who let their cats out too are only inviting other problems such as this back into their house. These problems can include fleas, worms and parasites that raccoons or other wild animals might carry. People might also bring these in on their shoes from the yard especially if a raccoon has defecated in it. Fleas like carpeting and upholstered furniture too. Loose garbage or feeding these wild animals purposely or accidentally can be a potentially huge problem. Outside cats should probably remain outside.

Maybe you could use a dilution of this soap and a sprayer for your backyard as well.

i'm telling you front line is the best. but don't buy it at walmart or petstores. get it at your vet. the ones in the stores are usally very old while they do have an experation date the meds still lose potacy after so much time. i try every thing this is the only thing that works and it works in hours. i have i white dog i can actually see it. once the are gone go get a flea collar and put it in your vacume cleaner and vacume the whole house. it will kill all the fleas you vacume up on carpets and furniture.

Monthly treatments don't allways work. My papillon has fleas again after about two weeks. Our problem is most-likely that we have yet to treat the house. No reinfestation if there are no fleas, right?

Talk to your vet about what to do, they will know so much more than any of us, even the idiots posing as vets and vet techs.

Come on, why would they mill around here all day?

Why would you want to do that, meaning kill the fleas and NOT treat the dog in order to prevent flea infestation?

Fleas can transmit disease to pets so killing them and leaving your family pet open to reinfestation by new fleas will do you no good.

It would be wise to invest in a commercially available flea preventitive, the one i use for my pet also repels, ticks, mosquitoes etc. If you consider what a preventitive costs per year its definitely worth it and you wont have to worry about special baths all the time etc.

Then there is heartworm preventitive etc. please do some more research in order to keep your pet healthy and happy.

Before you try anyone's suggestions, please, make sure it's not dangerous. I'm glad I did, or I might have killed my cat.

Here's one product I know for sure is safe for both dogs and cats. It's called diatomaeous earth. You can buy it at most gardening centers. The brand I have is called Natural Guard Crawling Insect Control. You use it on your pet, the pet's bedding, carpeting, and around your house. Just be sure to follow the directions on the package when using it. It's very fine and dusty so be careful not to breath it in.
This website give a pretty good description of what diatomaceous earth is and how it works. Good luck.

Fleas are a major pest. There are various species of fleas - cat fleas, dog fleas, rat fleas and rabbit fleas.
You can get rid of them by the safest and cheapest methods like boric acid.

Dilute Dawn Dish Soap and use it for shampoo, be sure to leave it on for at least 8 minutes. This may make their skin a bit dry but it will kill fleas.

Take a tin pie pan and put water and a drop or two of the dish soap in it, set a lamp on the floor beside it and watch what happens. I think you will be amazed.
