if you want to Marry an American just to become a citizen it's way more complicated thanat just getting married. Since the attack on Sept. 11th they have made it almost impossible to simply marry anyone to get citizenship. The INS has cracked down on marriages. They come to houses randomly to check and make sure that you are in fact living together as a married couple. My friend married someone that she has been dating for years and it's a real marriage and the INS has taken 7 years to make him officially a citizen. They separated them and asked them questions, they demanded pictures of them together during holidays and vacations. It was crazy.

So i don't recommend just marrying someone for citizenship unless you really want to marry that person and be together for a LONG time.

I think the term is "marry an American". If you are marrying a person just to live in New York, yes it is going to be the most difficult time of your life.

Not if you already have someone in mind. If you are not American, you'll need to complete all the INS paperwork. It's not difficult, but can be time consuming.
