I got an industrial cartilage piercing a few days ago or more and I've been cleaning it twice a day with Lever 2000 but its still oozing and crusty. Is this normal? And if not, what should I clean it with? Should I put peroxide on it? I don't want to get a keloid!

I've had a number of cartilage piercings done, and the oozing and crusting is normal, as long as it doesn't smell really bad or have a yellow or green color to it. The oozing and crusting is just the skin around the piercing trying to heal, like when you scrape your knee and a scab forms.

Don't put peroxide on it, that will first dry out the skin too much and can cause cracking, and also while peroxide kills the bad germs, it also kills the good germs too. Soap will also dry the skin out too much. What I was told to use and what I've had the most success with is just simple saline. I've had three different piercers tell me to use contact lens solution for sensitive eyes, and it's cleared up any irritation with my piercings. You can also use sea salts mixed with water to clean the area.

Keep doing what your doing. It normal for it to crust a little bit. Take a q-tip and gently wipe away the crusties and spin the barbell around so your skin won't fuse to the peircing.

Liquid anti-bacterial dial is a great soap to use. Just don't wash it more than two times a day as this will dry out your skin and wont be able to heal

Cartilage piercings take a long time to heal. Sometimes up to a year. If it gets really red, swollen, oozing a lot, and hurts so bad you can't even touch it, it may be infected and a trip to the dr may be needed.
