I agree with golden there, I will add you can give a dog a sponge bath. But make sure she is very dry. You don't want the puppies getting cold. I will give you a mistake I did once. After the puppies were walking around and eating a little. I took my dog to my groomers to have her wash and shave because the puppies took so much out of her , because she would never leave them., Her hair got thin so I ask the groomer to shave her. When I brought my dog back to her puppies they take one look at her and started crying and running away. lol I panic because I didn't know what to do. The puppies didn't know who she was. They couldn't smell the scent and their mommy didn't have any hair lol. After a while they found this dog gives them food then they realize that was mommy. What I am saying to you don't do any sudden changing to your dogs until the puppies are gone. I learn a lesson on that one.

That depends on your dog. If she is content being with her pups then I would just leave her be but if she stinks and some dogs do after giving birth then by all means give her a quick bath. This way you can clean her up and check to make sure she doesn't have any really foul discharge coming out of her after whelping. If she does then she needs to go to the vets right away. Just make sure you use a very mild shampoo and not flea or tick shampoo. Use a baby shampoo deluded by 1/2 and make sure you rinse her off really well. Especially her stomach. Dry her off and get her back to her pups right away. While your giving mom a bath make sure you keep the pups warm!

You should realize how much stress you're going to be causing your dog if you make her leave new-born puppies for the length of time it would take you to bath her and get her 100% dry (which she needs to be before you let her back with her pups). Also, you shouldn't be using shampoo on her while she's nursing.

If you want to clean her up, you can clean up her back end with either unscented baby wipes or you can use dry shampoo on her, making really sure you brush it all out thoroughly.
