I adopted a poodle form Petsmart 2 years ago. He was extremely shy and nervous for several weeks and I think i didn't hear him bark for a couple of months..even at other dogs. He craved affection. I work so I made sure I spent time with him before gong to work and when I came home. just would hold him a couple of times a day and gradually after a few months he relaxed. My point is it depends on the dog but it may take time. Believe me he is the sweetest and friendliest dog in the neighborhood now. One other thing--- i put small bath mats or those sherpa pads for dogs in every room so he would have his own space in every room.

I didn't know Petsmart had dogs to adopt.. All I ever seen were cats. You didn't say how old the dog was, but give the puppy time, you don't really know what went wrong in its little life. Just love your dog and be kind ..your puppy will come around in no time. There is no better medicine to a dog than a kind hand, and gentle voice.

You're dog doesn't bark and you're complaining? What I'd GIVE to go a day of quiet and still keep the company of my papillon.... lol

Just give the poodle some time to adjust, give it it's space and savor the silence.

If you have only had him a couple days, I wouldnt be too worried. He's probably just scared. Is he a puppy or older? If he is older, I definitely would say he is scared. Just give him time. Maybe try making barking noises at him to see what he does.
