It varies from doctor-to-doctor, what type of insurance you have, and what the doc has to do in your case. While the general WAY is the same, what steps have to be taken to do the proceedure vary from person-to-person because we're all different. I've had catatact removal on both (2-26-02 and 12-16-03). I can't recall the EXACT figures, but I know each was around 2,500-3,000 dollars each( USA). You'll be so greatful for how well you can see when you're done...trust me. BTW: Because it deals with the topic, your doc may recommend this proceedure to you after you have your cataract removed AND your eye settles down. You reach your final "vision level" for that time. It's called a Yag Laser. It's a quick, in-office proceedure. There CAN be slight pain after doing it that can be killed with a small dose of pain medication, but the likelyhood of this is rare. I had it done on both. The doc will bring in a machine that looks similar to the one used to give the eye exam. The patient places their chin on a chinrest, after the doc dialates the eye. This is so the eye will open up and the doc can get behind your eyeball. SOMETIMES after cataract surgery, little filaments collect behind your eyeball and cause a hazy effect when you look at lights. The patient remains as still as possible, and the only thing they hear is something similar to a nail gun or an earpiercing gun. It takes about 30 minutes and is well worth it. I'm not sure how much the cost for this was, but don't worry. Bask in the joy of you're final result after the cataract removal. Good luck to you!

The latest cataract surgery is called as Phacoemulsification. It is done with the sovereign cold phaco technology.
The procedure takes 15-20 mins and is relatively safe.
The cost of the surgery depends on the type of Lens Implanted.
If u want to have a multifocal implant it might cost u more.
If ure not covered by medical insurance , the best option would be to have the surgery done in countries like india. It would cost very less in India.
I am an Ophthalmologist from Chennai India

Haven't had this done myself, but several friends have had this done. Price varies as to the extent of the cataract's and/or the medical service who performs the work. Normally about $4,000.00 USD.

Why do it in US, which is so expensive.? If you have the CASH, take a 7 days - holiday, get it done in Thailand or China. It is much cheaper, and also just as safe as you do it in US.
