God didn't "allow" or "forbid" anything. All Gods and mythical entities are invented - the Egyptians came up with their own delusions, which seem to have served for rather a long time.

In the Middle East, the "cradle of civilisation", different divine entities were spawned, but for the same purpose - to control the population and preserve the inequalities already established. After all, it's a lot easier to justify "being in charge" if God says it's ok.

Because He allows free will. Societies develop through enlightenment, over time. Neanderthals probably didn't embrace a single Deity for worship, but they most likely knew that there were forces greater than themselves. Therefore, the Egyptians may have demonstrated a particular chronological development.

Maybe god was observing the ancient Egyptians and He was waiting for them to change, He was giving them 3000 years' time to change. When they didn't, God sent down all the curses like the 10 plagues.

I am an Egyptian and I can tell you that it is not clear what the pharos were worshiping

The story in the Bible and the Quran about Ramses II are similar but there are indications that

1- they worshiped only one God at least for a period of time. this is what is calld Raa and although it is translated the Sun God there are translations for it that mean the ONLY GOD

2- there is a story in the Quran about a prophet called Adrees and there are who claim that this is Oziris the famous Egyptian.

God bless

BTW now we are mainly Muslims and Christians with Muslims as the majority

If you look into Christianity you will discover many references to Pagan sun worship. As Temsah rightly states there was a period of Egyptian "one god", this deity was of course Aten (or Aton) symbolised by a golden disk . This being was supreme, lived in heaven, sent down his rewards from above, (stop me when the penny drops) was the true way and the Light, from him all good things come, without him we walk in darkness. Moses invented the rest !

Does God actually want to be worshipped?

The god at any given time was like a fashion accessory. Plus, if you did not believe the same as the others, they could be nasty. Come to think of it, not much changes, does it?!

Hi

Because God has given us free will,

but this does hurt God, and there are times where our corruption and prostitution to other gods leads to our downfall, be that either by our own fault or God's discipline, but then again God disciplines those he loves, only in the hope that they will turn from their wrongdoings and come closer to him before its too late.
