I found small dogs... especially females are a little difficult to potty train. in a heart beat they can squat on the floor. yes, you can either use a "key word" or clicker or action to associate with "asking" to go out.
Try ringing a little bell just before you go out... every time!! be consistant. Hang the bell within reach of the dog and show them how to tap the bell and then go out. She'll catch on. The trick is to be consistant. Same door, same bell, same actions, same result.

llittle dogs should be outside all the time. atleast 20 times perday. I have a doggie door so hey can go and even now at 9 years old I stilll praise them when they did there job. and she will ride all the way to boston form maine without going pee because she is not home. and I stopped 10 times. stubborn. Sorry but i don't believe in crates. I have a soft one that the door is always open if they feel like they need to hide. But mine sleep in my bed. if she is use to being in a crate and having to pee on what she sleeps because she has no where to go. then that is what she is going to do because you have given her no option.

When she goes on the floor, take her to the spot, hold her nose close to the spot and say NO-NO. Promptly take her outside and tell her to go potty. When she does, give a small bite of a treat. Be consistant. By the way, I don't believe in using Crates. Good Luck

Any time you let her out of the crate she should be going outside immediately. Then she should be allowed freedom in the house.

A domestic dog will not go in his home (the CRATE) so, when
let out of his home (the CRATE), he does his business.
You have to let him out of his home (the CRATE) AND ACCLIMATE HIMSELF TO YOUR HOME!! Keep an eye on him and when you see he's going to do any business pick him up quickly and gently (chest and rear) and run him outside
while saying GOTTA GO OUTSIDE? GOTTA GO OUTSIDE? After repeating this process over and over again! (you're training !!!), IT'LL BECOME SECOND NATURE.

i had the same problem with my puppy. try putting a small bell at the door you use to take her out. and every time you open the door to go out ring it then imedeatly go out side. she will eventually see that ring the bell will open the door to go outside. keep it low and attached to the molding and she will hit it with her nose when she has to go.

Yes, you need to get off your butt and train your yorkie. Poor thing is locked up in a cage. She don't know what to do, when she get out of it. By the way you don't get. Train your dog!
