My ex-wife unfortunately died recently and was buried wearing a really expensive ring that I bought for her. Would it be ok for me to dig her up and get the ring back? The thing is; if I don't do it I'm pretty sure that her second husband will, because he's a drunk and wants to sell it to buy beer.

Yeah, go for it! Give her one while you're at it.

Get a court order and dig the old broad up; however, the ring belongs to the last husband if they were married when she died.

Your need to ask this question already shows an awareness of how hideous this idea is. Your better self is aware this is a somewhat gruesome idea. Believe me, you do not want all your good memories of your wife to be obliterated by the searing image of her decomposing corpse.
Get a restraining (do-not-disturb) order on her grave. I think to disturb her body to prevent a possible crime is basically committing the crime yourself. She didn't belong to either one of you and disturbing her body will upset her family. You should have removed the ring before burial but didn't, which means you probably did not want to appear like a money-grabber, but to do it in secret, just so you don't have to own up to it is almost worse.

if you dont get caught then leave a note. why would you let her be buried wearing it if you wanted it. oh wait.. just replace the ring with a fake so thedrunk bastard if ever he finds he grave gets into a frenzy when its not worth peanuts. but then do you really want to dig her up? she might grab you and you screaming would rupture the walls and you'd be buried alive

She must have liked the ring very much for it to be left on her fingers when she was buried.
I would suggest to leave the dead alone.

In addition, if you believe in spirits, getting back the ring may not be a good thing ...who knows she may 'want' to claim it back from you.

You would have to get a court order to dig up the body.
