We have an 11 week old pup. She is really good and cries when she needs to go no.2 so we take her out, but she hasn't grasped that weeing in the house isn't good and does it on the carpet when we let her run around (we have made a run for her the rest of the time). We hold her head down to the floor as recommended by trainers and say 'NO' in her ear. Any other tried & tested tips from dog owners? Thanks

Ok, well, just so u know:

1. If you dont catch a puppy "in the act" of soiling your house, do not scold because they have no idea what they did wrong. It is only effective to use reprimands when they are in the act because this is the only time they know thay what they are doing is wrong, not what they previously did.

2. Pups have very close associations with things. such as a leash with going on a walk. you can teach your pup to bring you the leash when she needs to go. Do this by giving the dog the leash and calling her. When she gives it to you take he right outside. She will eventually get the hang of it and will bring it to you whenever she needs to go.

3. When she does eliminate outside PRAISE HER!!! I can not say this enough. You may or may not want to give her trates when she does. the only downside to this is her becoming dependant on the treats later on.

4. If she has a crate, use it!! Confine her for short periods at first and then longer ones as needed so that she gets the concept of not soiling where she sleeps and such. This helps the training.

Hope this helped!!! GOOD LUCK having a new puppy is the same as having a child!!! Only the strong can survive!! heehe <333

11 weeks is old enough to train. Keep her confined to a small area where you are. Watch her when she eats and drinks. Take her out to the same spot as soon as she is done eating and WAIT. When she goes praise her. Do not punish her after the fact. You must watch her closely and when she starts to smell and circle take her out.Remove her water and food when she is done. Do not let her run around the house until you can trust her. She will get it if you take the time to put her on a schedule and stick to it.

This website has a very positive approach to potty training your puppy by using a happy voice and an unhappy voice.

It worked very well for me.
