I have fancied this woman for a long time, and would like to ask her out. She is 17 years older though, and i dont know if that would make it difficult.

Has anyone got any knowledge of a similiar situation, or any advice?

She is a college lecturer and im an administrator. We dont work in the same department, but i smile and say hi when i see her. Ive found out she's seperated and not seeing anyone. How could i go about things.?

Many thanks for any help!

Yes. Age is a state of mind. Make sure you won't get tired and start looking in younger pastures. Don't hurt her.

I agree with the first person. Ask her out for a cup of joe. You guys don't work in the same dept., so it's not mixing business with pleasure. If the coffee date goes well ask her out for a casual date to the movies. Who knows, maybe she has a crush on you too. You have heard "age isn't anything but a number." Well, my mate and I are five years apart. I seem to get along with him more than any guys my age. This might happen with you guys too! Good luck!

Checklist:
You are both uninvolved - yes
You both are above the age of concent - yes
Its not prohibited by employer - not sure about this one

looking good, go for it.

seriously though, if there is something there, you have to take the chance and go for it. The possibility that some might look down upon you is there, but they are those who dont understand true love. True love surpasses all boundaries: age, race, gender, etc

This is becoming very common. I think it is easier on the guy who is younger than the woman who is 42.
If you want to ask her out, do it.. but be prepared for a no just in case. What do you have to lose? Nothing.
If you dont ask, you will never know.
Its ok, Look at the men who ask younger women out.
No different,, its all preference.

Tell her you are going to go get a cup of coffee(or something somewhere, not a movie..) and tell her she should join you, but have something to talk about in mind and make it short, then get her email and number as you are leaving (coffee, or just when telling her you're going and she doesn't go for whatever reason, get the email or #)(tell her to give it to you, not ask for it; have paper and pen ready)
if she gives you either then you're good to go...
but first, go to...
David DeAngelo . com and read and sign up for the email newsletters..you wont be sorry at all

Do you mean do you have a chance for a one night stand, or a life time relationship? If the latter, of course you have a chance if she is a confident person who won't mind being older than you.

Wow, what a fantasy for her to have it come true! Go for it, ask her out, say something like..'Hey, are you free Friday night for drinks or dinner?'
Boy, she'll take you like a man! go for it.

well she'll probably be one of two things...flattered or..incredibly repulsed.....so the odds are 50/50....besides...living in the unknown is probably a burning feeling....but also....lets stay in the realistic realm...
