Yes I agree with 'onelanrp' reply, its cheaper to fly, the train travel is far too long, far too risky , go into your search engine and look for , 'cheapest UK flights' you wont regret it!!
Rail travel is a complete rip off!!!Keeplooking 'BMI baby', 'thomson flights' etc etc.

Go by plane, it is cheaper and only takes about an hour. I did it a few years ago. There is a good bus service from the airport into town in Edinburgh. Going by train is much longer and more expensive although if you book in advance it does reduce the price a little but it is still more expensive.

flybe do reasonable flight prices to edinburgh with 1hr 35 mins journey this is the quickest way
train prices are extremely overpriced and unless you have a travel card which would give a reduction in price i wouldnt go by train - travel time direct would be approximately 9 + hours
national express coach company does do bargain travel from city to city - so from london victoria - edinburgh from £1 would be worth considering especially if your on a tight budget - average travel time direct 9+ hours
i hope this is of help

I am not persuaded flying is always cheaper or quicker than train, It depends on how far in advance you are prepared to book your ticket, where your nearest airport is, and how you get to the airport or Kings Cross station.

National Rail http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ can give train times and fares. Edinburgh Airport http://www.edinburghairport.com/ will tell you which airlines fly to/from there so you can determine which are the most convenient and cheapest airlines for you.
