I met an incredibly sexy woman, years ago. We lived in different cities, but usually got together over weekends. After many months, we moved in together.
We both knew, that we were not meant for each other, but we made a life and a home.
9 years later we separated. She has since married, has kids and a really nice husband.
We are still friends, and on occassion, her husband and I have business dealings together.

First of all, how can you know that it won't work in the long run. Are you a fortune-teller? God forbid!
Second... when will you be confident that it will work out with anyone? Who knows what we happen tomorrow?
If you are so sure that it won't work in the long run? Why is it working now or why did you or do you want to start it now? Think about it? Why would you do it? If it already doesn't make sense, why bother and create more headaches than you already have in your life? Walk!!! Just walk!!! on by... as you take your time in what can prove to be the most important decision of your life. Make sure of what you're stepping into before you do. What's the purpose of waiting to cry later? Unless you're a sucker for punishment, walk!!!

How can it be a long relationship if it won't work out in the "long run"?? I'm a little confused. If you know it won't work out, it won't work out now or years after the relationship has commenced. You are already dooming it by saying it won't work out in the long run.

Either allow it to takes its course and learn what you need to learn from the relationship (as every relationship you have is only valuable if you have learnt something from it) or just don't go ahead with it in the first place if you know it won't work out anyway.

You have to give things a chance or you will never find the right one. Just make sure they are single and available then go for it if you feel attracted.
